Post Office Carry?

I can't remember where I ran across it, but I'm pretty sure I found an official length limit of 2-1/2" for Post Offices and other Federal buildings.

You're thinking of 18 USC sec. 930, which bans firearms and other dangerous weapons in Federal facilities, but includes the provision that a pocket knife with a blade under 2 1/2" is not a dangerous weapon (for the purposes of that section).

I go into the post oriface with whatever knife/knives/weapons I have on me at the time and dont give it another thought.
I use my knife to open packages right there in front of G_d and everyone - no one has ever said peep, only a few people give me freaked out looks. Fuk'em if they arent significantly evolved as sentient beings to recognize a good tool and its useful potentials I dont give a shtit what they think anyway. :D (Not that I do anything to intimidate or otherwise freak out anyone, I am very carefrul not to, pinch my blade by the spine to smake it look smaller, dont wave draw, etc. etc. - if people still choose to be freaked out, I dont care. Would like an apology from them at being forced to share my oxygen supply, but I'll let that pass ;) ;) )

(P.S. I have a lot of respect for postal employees who do their job well, and who deal with all the stress of working at the post office. At my local post office the post mistress and her one employee are not good at their jobs, or dealing with the strees [altho, really, how much can there be in a town of less than 1000 people?] and to top it all off, they are both bitches in the extreme. So dont take my post orifice comment personally, its just meant RE my local PO.)

But, Danelle, you live in the WILD WEST !!! Here in the civilized environs of traditional NEW JERSEY, we take a more genteel approach to naked steel

(I gotta try my new UT6 on our local Post Office -- the blade's only 3.5" :) )

The last time I was in the post office I was posting a boxed up knife.

I was asked what was in the box, and when I said a folding pocket knife (trying to make it sound as harmless as possible ;) ), you would have thought I had just pulled on a balaclava mask and had asked here to hand over all the money judging by her expression.
This was replaced by a look of utter uncomprehending surprize when after she asked what it's value was I replied £300 ($400USD) :D

Poor woman didn't have a clue, was I a knife weilding maniac or a total nut ?

ok, I've been in my PO enough...

I went in today, bought an envelope(after sizing it against the fixed blade in my back pocket(the one getting mailed)), went to the back to mail it, and he didn't blink when I took the knife from my back pocket, put it in the envelope and then did my writing and sealing... 4.5" fixed(spyderco fb05 temp).
