Hey everyone,

I hope this thread isn't redundant. If people think it is, I can close it down. I thought it would be cool to see or read about what everyone else carried when they first got into quality knives. "Quality" of course doesn't necessarily mean expensive or fancy. If you started out with a $7 Opinel, let's hear it or even better, if you have a pic, let's see it.

Here was my EDC set up several months after joining Blade Forums (from 2006). I still keep that Leatherman Wave in my bag and it has proven to be much more useful overall than any other knife I've owned:

Neat thread idea. Here's my first EDC from way back in 6-15-2004. The only thing I still have is the Meyerco Paradox, the X1 and the Soldier eventually got traded away. I purchased the Soldier and the X1 based off recommendations from this very forum.
here's my poor college student EDC.

-Victorinox soldier sharpened at a 20 degree angle, it shaves easily and cuts very well but the blade got pretty messed up when i used it to pry open my door but it is super easy to resharpen
-Meyerco paradox sharpened at a 25 degree angle, the AUS8 on this knife is a decent steel, i use this knife as my general purpose knife and it holds an edge very well for all the abuse i give it. the zip ties make it easier to open left handed and add some grip when opening with wet/greasy hands; a common occurence working in the kitcen at an italian restaurant.
-Inova X1- light, bright and sturdy. the beam may be too narrow and focused for some but i find it works great for me.
