How was everybody's Thanksgiving? In the spirit of the Holiday Season (and the fact that I couldn't wait until I reached 1000 posts) I was inspired to have my own giveaway...

...I sitting at home admiring my meager collection of Busses and Bussekin and noticed I had some extra accessories I wasn't using. So I decided I might as well send them off to someone who is more interested in them than I. The goods are pictured below, they're not much but they'll make someone happy. They are D-guards supposedly for an ASH but I held them next to a Fusion handle and they should fit albeit a bit tight. If you're into leather and spikes, they're just the ticket for you...I threw in the Sanrenmu folder just for the hell of it.

I want to hear some stories of how you were introduced to or learned of the Busse line of knives. I'll start first, after having a random urge to make my first knife I began to do some research online. A quick Google search led me to Bladeforums and I was browsing through the General Knife Discussion forum and came across a thread where the poster was asking questions about Busses. Of course, there were a ton of responses and one of them suggested that the OP post the question in the Busse forum (I wasn't aware of the Busse forum yet). I then cruised on over to the Busse forum and the rest is history...just like my wallet.

Don't know when the deadline will be, but sometime in the near future I'll choose my favorite story and contact the lucky person :D:thumbup:.

ok , thank you ,man.
my romantic ralation bewteen me and BUSSE , i think , started when i get the name from www.knifetests.com , and i fall in love with busse , that all .
BUSSE knives are opium to , i can not bear .

dingy.

Saw a video on YouTube of a huge busse, fbm i think. Then did researched on the forums and it went from there. Guess how many busse's I own now?....NONE!!! Haha one day I'll get my first one :(

I was walking through the woods one day and there was a large rock I had never seen before. There was a small break in the tree tops allowing a small beam of light to shine down on this single spot in the heavily wooded area. Stuck in the middle of this rock was a NMFBM. I attempted for many hours to free the knife, but try as I might I could not get this incredible blade out of the rock. I then went on blade forums and bought my first Busse, an ASH-1. I went back into the woods and chopped the NMFBM out of the rock so I would have 2 Busses. Now I have many.

At the Indy 1500 Gun & Knife show. I was passing a booth manned by a big guy and his strange little side kick. Glanced at the table and thought 'Good God. How can anybody pay that much for a blade. They can't be that good. My first 2 cars didn't cost as much as some of those blades.

Showed the big dude the fine blade I just bought, a BM Griptillian with thumb stud. I was bragging about what a fine knife it was and at a fraction of the cost of what he was selling. The guy didn't say a word against my knife, but offered to let me handle any blade on the table. I felt up each blade. Was impressed by the feel of each knife, but more impressed by the guys behind the table. The side kick pulled out a really well used straight handled Busse and told me about what all that poor blade had been through. I was amazed at how ell that edge held up. Very pleasant intro to the Busse knife.

The next show, I looked for the Busse table first thing. I showed what I had bought via BladeForums. A sweet lil' Assault Shaker in TAN and at a great price (Thanks Jodi). Man, you would have thought I was passing out free beer. The Busse dudes were really impressed with my first Busse blade. I talked about how much I liked the TAN finish. The next thing I know he's pulling out a little bit bigger blade for me to check out. A perfectly sized EDC blade AND sheath, in the perfect color combo. A Meaner Street in TAN/TAN:thumbup:. Didn't take but 2 seconds for me to dig into my gun money and snap that sheath and blade to my belt. Besides others on my side of the table, the guy manning the next table was drooling over that blade.

A great big thanks to Hammie and Bob for introducing me to Busse:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

My Kabar was getting a little tired so I decided to do some online research into a replacement. I saw the videos on knifetest.com followed that to the knifetest forum's "for sale" thread where is fell instantly and permanently in love with a Competition Grade Hell Razor. I didn't have the money and it sold so slow it was painful to watch. I started reading the Bladeforums site regularly and saw a reference to the Busse subforum, the rest is (recent) history.

Well, back about a year ago, I bought out an entire knife collection and was parting it out to make some money. Back then $100 for a knife was lot and I thought Benchmade knives were high end. So I got a hold of a Meaner Street with a number on it, posted it here on the forum for not a lot of money. Well, that was purchased and although I was hesitant, I ended up selling it. I couldn't believe how much these knives went for, and did a bit s searching, learned a bit more and thought anyone that collected Busse were crazy and out of their mind for how much they went for.
Well since then, I have learned much about Busse and have aquired one or two here and there:) I have been trying to get that very first Busse back but the person I sold it to had traded it to someone else. Up till today, I thought even though it was a huge loss for me to lose such a beautiful knife, it was worth it, I have learned much about Busse and it was all worth it.
Of course it isn't the end of a story unless there is a happy ending. So about a hour before I posted this, I was told that the person that has the knife is thinking about letting me have the knife again. I'm not sure it it will be a sale or trade but just the thought of it, I can't wait. :)

From Tactical Knives Magazine edition #2( I think ) article on the SH. Bought 5 over the years then had to sell them on E-bay cause times got hard. now in one year Im up to 16 (including a $100 Porky MS Liu LOL)

I read the article in American Survival Guide years ago. Looked like a pretty tough Knife, I knew I had to get one. But by the time finances allowed it, I had missed out on the SHBM. I ended up with a BM-E, which I still have today. Probably why I like the ergo's still. Funny thing is, that BM-E was enough, the only Busse I owned. Up until recently,,,:o

The Bay was my gateway to the wild world of Busse. I had seen the occasional AK-47 pop up now that I think of it, but I wasn't really into swords at that time so I didn't pay any attention (wish I would have :grumpy:). I can't remember exactly what I was looking for but a Scrapper 6 LE came up in the search. It was up to $210 and I thought that that was a steep price for a fixed blade production knife. I started doing some research on this knife and Scrap Yard and discovered the Busse Knife Group.

Around the same time, I discovered BladeForums from another knife forum and the Busse sub-forum and Busse /Swamp Rat/Scrap Yard exchange just seemed to jump out and find me. I kept researching and reading on-line, looked at the knife destruction testing, and read the threads in this very forum.
I finally decided to jump in and see how this mystery steel feels and handles. Now I just needed to find the right knife. The ASH1 was the knife for sale at the Busse website and I kept going back and looking at that one. It looked pretty sweet and indestructible.

Well, instant gratification being the overriding force it is, and not wanting to wait "Two Weeks" :foot: I found an ASH1 on the exchange that I liked the look of. I bit the bullet and spent twice as much as I had ever paid for a single knife :eek:. My first Busse was a Combat Grade ASH1 double cut with magnum G10 - Love that knife :D. Well I was hooked bad. Before the ASH hit the doorstep I bought a Pumpkin and Coyote GW. One week later was my first Ganza  Now it's what can I sell/barter/trade to get another Busse.

It's too late for me, but you can run.
Run fast and far and you just might not end up like me
:D

Wouldn't those spikes look good on my ASH? ;)

Great giveaway idea!
My “path to Busse”!

Having grown up with the Boy Scouts of America and having cultivated a general love of outdoors, it would seem natural to have gravitated towards Busse knives. However, sometime just before college (10 years ago), I became engrossed in urban living. I became stuck in the bump and grind of everyday life until a revelation shook me loose in early 2009. I saw my life ending one minute at a time, in a job that I hated. First, I told the State of California to take their golden hand cuffs and my new promotion and “SHOVE IT WHERE THE SUN DON’T SHINE”. Then I returned to a local university this fall to earn a degree in a different field. This next degree is in Environmental Science. I knew I needed to be outside and in the wild, and fulfill some responsibility to nature.

Having more “Free time” meant I could start backpacking again. I did a smidgen of research and picked up some gear at REI, then hit the trail. A trip to Desolation and one to Point Reyes left me content, but with a tingle on the back of my neck that something was still amiss. I hit the Backpacker Magazine forums to start sharing and learning. I found them to be a generally unpleasant group to interact with. So, I occasionally lurked to see if I could still glean something. One day someone posted a thread called “Ultra Heavy Backpacking” scoffing at a video someone made of their backpacking gear. The videographer was Nutnfancy, and he had several knives in the video. I watched the whole thing and actually listened to the guy with an open mind. I enjoyed some of what he had to say. I poked around and found he had done some knife reviews of rather large knives for outdoor use and wood processing. Having only a Leatherman, Gerber Gator, and a Benchmade Griptilian, I was a bit out of the Knife-World.

I couldn’t stop watching these videos though! I knew I had been waiting for this perfect marriage of collecting useful things! Having always collected something since I was a child, Cameras, Comics, Books, and even Light-bulbs at one point. I knew I had found something else to collect AND mate to my renewed passion in outdoor activities. I couldn’t get enough knife reviews and Batoning videos. Soon, my knife collection grew from 3 folders to almost 30 knives of all shapes and sizes: Cold Steel, SOG, Ontario, and more all began coming in the mail, (Mostly fixed blades) much to my girlfriends dismay. My outdoor activities had been missing good BLADES.

Then, back in September I was watching a new Nutnfancy video and had started reading some of the comments (not something I recommend), one of which mentioned something called a Busse FFBM as a superior knife and linked to Knifetests. I checked it out, and noted there were over 100 minutes of someone beating the $h1t out of this knife. I had to know more. Having recently heard bout Bladeforums from yet another Youtube user as a great site to trade on, I created a profile and started virtual page turning. Only minutes in I noted Busse had their own Sub-Forum and started reading. The people here were kind, intelligent, unusual and generally pleasant. It felt like I had found a good place to settle down, a place where I could continue learning and enjoy myself AS myself.

I decided on the first three Busses I would buy in short time. First I wanted an SFNO for the single blade outdoor use and entry to Busse world. I figured I would start small. LOL. I soon found the perfect one on the Exchange and after much nervous anticipation I picked it up (Thanks Houndstooth). Incredible knife, and hard to put down. It feels like it was made for MY hand. Second and Third: I am now getting ready to buy a chopper and a sub 4 inch for my outdoors duo. Probably a BWM and a GW. The rest, as they say, is history. I haven’t been back to the Backpacker Magazine forums. I stick to the Busse sub-forums, W&SS sub-forums, and a few others now. I appreciate this opportunity to explore and share my story. It feels good to grow. No Regrets.

I have grown up with knives and guns my whole life. As a kid I always had a folder on me, church, school, riding my bike, playing dirt clod wars in our forts I always had a knife on me.

When I was a kid I always had a job, since the time I was old enough to push a lawn mower. Much of my kid money was spent on guns and knives.

I had an uncle who made custom knives (Glen Hornby, out of California). I saved my money for one of his customs. I bought a skinner with stag handles for $125, which was a lot of money for a little kid. Since the day I saw him unroll one of his knife rolls, I wanted to make knives.

I had always wanted to go to his shop one summer and learn how. I figured I would talk to him about it after I graduated from Highschool. He died before that could happen.

Years later, I was looking for information on custom knife making, which lead me to Bladeforums. In looking thought the site, I found the Busse sub forum. I thought they looked like great knives. I thought the FBM's were the coolest looking chopper I had ever seen (which is funny, because years ago, I stumbled upon the Busse web site, and thought the only knife offered was ugly........I honestly can't remember what knife it was, but it was more than 4 or 5 years ago, if I remember correctly).

One of the things that impressed me about the Busse knives, is that people who own many high end customs rave about them. What impressed me more was to see custom makers them selves buy them to use!

I did not think I would ever afford one. Then I saw a listed FBMLE for sale or trade for firearms. I had an AR pistol I traded for one, and another custom.

I had never seen one in person, or handled one.............but I made that trade on faith, after having spend many many many hours drooling, and scheming. I only have 4 now. All users, and I agonize over every offering, and spend much time on this forum looking and talking.

I recently had the opportunity to meet another hog in person, and that was a huge mistake. A stealth hog brought two storage containers full for me to fondle, and I now have a particular desire for satin/black combo knives, not to mention the nuclear melt down treatment, and factory convex............and satin and snake skin combo, and ergo handles, and etc etc etc etc (did I mention how awesome rucks or MOABS are?).......

that is my particular story leading to addiction.

( actually made my first knife and am working on two others right now, as well as making sheaths.........so I guess this forum was the gateway for a couple of momentous events).

Here is my first....................... right after I opened the package..............

Whoa man, it's waaay too late for me!

I had just moved to Alaska and decided that if I were going to spend any time in the woods then I needed at least one good knife that I could depend on. I had no clue about knives back then and did no research on them. I just went to the auction site and looked for the knife I'd always wanted. The Rambo 2 knife. Needless to say, I got screwed. The seller did not have any, he just advertised them and if somebody ordered one then he would hunt one down to send to the buyer. After three months I finally got my money back and decided to do some research and find the right knife from the right company. I found www.knifetests.com and saw the FBM tests. I fell in LOVE!!! So I started searching for these knives and found the forums and the stores and spent alot of time reading and learning all I could about this family and fell even deeper in Love with the whole Busse Knife Group. At the time I couldn't afford a Busse but I did get a mini mojo from Swamp Rat. Even though I read all about these knives I was still impressed. My Dad came up to visit and said he wasn't leaving Alaska until I sold him my knife. I went ahead with the sale and with a little understanding from my wife, I was able to get a BATAC SE off of the exchange. I was even more impressed now. Since then I've done some more trades and bought a couple more. I now have a SFNO 1 of 300, a SAR 4 LE and SAR 4 SE. I also have a Hairy Carry that my wife carries in her purse. The SFNO and SAR4LE are in "GO" bags to be used only in an emergency and my SAR4SE is itching to go into the woods. The HC has been used for everything. I have plans to get some kind of chopper and maybe an edc knife for myself some time in the future. I come to the forums and read all the posts just about every day, and eagerly await the next offering or ganza even though I know I can't afford to get any of them unless it's my b-day. Having three young kids at home makes it difficult. But I love to see new ones and old ones and varients and customs and everything else. I love to see them in sheaths, out of sheaths, on display or in a tree. This truly is an addiction but one I'm not ashamed of. In fact I'm quite proud to say that I am a part of the Busse family and owning one of the toughest knives in the world just makes me happy.

Its all WLJ4163's fault. I began talking to his son, a student where I teach, about knives and he began talking up Busse. I Just couldn't see spending that kinda cash on a blade. But after talking to WLJ I took the leap. Found an OJGW on GlockTalk ($215 shipped SMOKIN' DEAL) and sold a gun to get a knife. Never thought I would do that. I love this little knife, just need to get a Tek-Loc so I can belt carry it. Kind of a silly way to get started but selling a gun to get a knife, never thought I would do that.

This is a very interesting thread:thumbup::thumbup:

Very cool how you all got to know "Busse Combat":)

pbubsy told me to, "come on over to the Busse forum." It was one of the best moves I ever made.
Thanks Paul. ;)

Don't enter me in the competition, but I'll share my story.

I've always been into knives, but never really any "high end" stuff. I've been through a lot of Cold Steels, Kabars, and so on, and very much enjoyed those blades (and still do).

However, a year or so ago, I was reading another forum I frequent, hammockforums.net. I usually post there to discuss camping and backpacking gear, obviously as related to hammocking, which is, IMHO, in every way superior to camping in a tent.

Anyway, on hammock forums, there is a knife thread, where folks just discuss different knives they use and like, and I was introduced to Busse family blades through there. Did a whole lot of reading and decided that only Scrap Yard knives were worth the money, since they were already way more expensive than my well used and loved fixed blades. After getting bitten by the SY bug, I started lusting after Swamp Rats, and still thought I wouldn't ever get much INFI....

Then I went to BLADE in Atlanta. And came home with 9 knives from the Busse companies. That was pretty much the beginning of the end right there.

I switched to hammock camping, because hammocks are superior to tents, and I switched to Busse family blades, because they are superior to most knives. My love of fine gear brought me here, through another source of fine gear.
