Although the venerable 165 boasts a larger field for collecting variants, and certainly a larger world inventory overall, I think the svelte little sister to the 165, viz. the 160, deserves more attention. It is really a fine user, being a little narrower in the sideview and also in the cross section of the blade. The tang part of the steel is actually identical to the 165. The differences begin fore of the guard. The blade is flat-ground, as there is not as much beef there as in the saber-ground 165. While the 165 would clearly be the better choice for extended heffalump market hunting, the 160 offers plenty of iron for anything in North America. And of course in the kitchen. The 165s in the scan averaged 8.7 ounces, and the 160s averaged 6.9 ounces. Altogether a very pleasing aesthetic in a fixed blade, and fairly available in that market we love to hate.
