Post your collection! (Pic)

Seeing people's pristine knives are fine but I really only have to go to knife store websites to see those.

I'd like to see people's beater knives. Like the guy with the twenty year old Gerber that's been used so many times, the blade is down to a nub. Or that Case knife with the missing stag handle on one side, one broken blade, but still used like there's no tomorrow!

It's great to see that some people are collecting, really collecting, similar knives...keeping to a 'theme' if you will...very nice to see!

Grapevine, good eye! The one you mentioned is really one of our favorites. Made around the 1st or 2nd year of production, it's a 5.375" model 25 'Trapper' in a 'Smooth back' Johnson 'A' model sheath...

Greg Gutcher Sr. of Sullivan's once told me that when the 'Trapper' was 1st introduced, he was making the 'A' model sheaths, and Johnson was making the 'F' model 'tube' sheaths...so, this one is a little rare.

Also, in addition to the odd blade length, it's got a SS blade, NS hilt, a 'Crow's beak' alum. butt cap, and some killer stag!...all in all, a very sweet RMK! :D

The rest is pretty much standard RMK fare, with a few mini's, Dealer Special's, RKS 'Club knives', and Non-catalog models mixed in...We're doing a 'One of each RMK model' collection, to display on the west coast knife show circuit...

A few more to go, some display cases, and a little cash...and we'll be ready to 'show'... ;)

I will be opening a Knife Museum in San Francisco as soon as can swing in with the Broad of Directors, you guys will have to wait for that to happen before you can see my whole collection! :p LOL

I wouldn't hold my breath, if the Directors don't see any black ink they don't like it one darn bit! hehe

Mel, you got any pictures of Al Mar knives to post?

That really is a great RMK Collection you have. Nice collection of Applegate-Fairbairn fighting knives as well.

Hopefully I'll be able to take some pictures this weekend...after the Philipino martial arts competition, and after the local gunshow (if I can still walk...lol) :eek:

As far as the collections go...I've been eating 'Rice and beans', and 'Mac n' cheese' for the last few weeks...collections do come with a price... :(

With regards to the A/F's...yes, that is a white handled T.J. Yancey 'Presentation' model...one of 34 made, and that serrated AMK is the only one I've ever seen...Gary Fadden of AMK was unaware that such a model had ever been made...it's very rare indeed. (Thank you again Gad Bililious!)

Now that's more like it! A knife with character and some mileage on it!

It reminds me of this side story on the news I saw a couple of years ago. It was just a human interest story of this old timer (no pun intended)guy -- probably in his 70's -- who sat on his porch "widdling" wood.

They showed him sharpening his ol' trusty widdling knife. It wasn't any fancy Sebenza, or Microtech, or Spyderco, or even CRKT folder for that matter. It was just a very old drugstore pocket knife (Case style) which had been used so often for so many years that the original blade profile and curves had been long ground away, and the blade was scuffed and tarnished. The real value of the knife wasn't the steel composition, or handle material. It was the history, and the blood and sweat behind it in the hands of that ol' man. He didn't use a fancy dianmond or ceramic sharpener either. Just your basic hardware store wetstone but, like a maestro, put a scalpel sharp edge on it.

Then he went back to widdling the piece of wood while sitting on his porch at one with the knife. I thought, "Now that's a real knife, and a knife nut!"
