Posting Buck pics w/PhotoBucket

Also known as "Photobucket For Dummies" ;)

[Latest update - 30 Dec 2007]

This is for Registered Members lacking photo attachment privileges and/or newcomers eager to display their latest acquisitions... :)

It's quick & dirty, and if I've made mistakes or left out a vital step, please inform me & I'll change it! I've used the thumbnail-linked-to-fullsize option to save space (and I'm going over my own threads changing them by using this method). There's a more detailed tut at - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219367 if you want to get more involved. Bernard Levine has also provided instructions at - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=353471.

How to post photos to your thread using PhotoBucket

Set up a PhotoBucket account. I just chose the Free Account.

Next, make sure you are logged in to your account.

If you haven't set up an "album" yet, do so. If you wish to keep your images separated, set up a "Sub Album" and click on it to open it.

Upload your image by using the "Upload To" box at the top of the page. Click on Browse; navigate to the image on your hard drive; select it by clicking on it, it should appear in the box "picture" line. Add a separate description if you like (I don't bother). Click "Upload" button.

Scroll down to the image you wish to link, check the box next to the image name.

Now, go to the bottom of the page, and select "Generate HTML and IMG Code".

*Important* Please implement this next step!!! Not everyone is on broadband, and some of us have to pay for bandwidth!!!

On the resulting page, scroll down to the third selection box "IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards - recommended" and copy that text. Save it to a safe place.

Start your Forum thread. Post your opening text.

Open the "IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards - recommended" text that you saved. Paste the text into your thread. Click "Save" when you've finished typing your post. The clickable thumbnail should be functional.

I got it to work once, and since, I've been missing a step, although I'm don't have a clue what it is. I'm trying again. I would like some opinions on my leather work as I have bought Buck knives on eBay and other sources that have gone cheap for lacking an original sheath. I'm very traditionally orientated, so the style may not trip your trigger, but would like to know what you guys think.

I may have it now. On the left is a Buck USA 118 and on the right is a Buck USA 102.

 ...Great job of posting your pic Rudderjt...and nice looking knives to boot. One of these days I'm gonna have to invest in one of those new-fangled digital thingies to take a few pics of my "Buncha Bucks"...LOL...Then I will need a few months to figure out how you and Trax get those nice pics out to the forum...:D

... Mike Kerins also seems to have the knack of putting up awesome pics of his knives...Really nice to have Joe Houser and Larry Oden and Jack Foresman and CJ and all the other great Buck "masters" to get advice and counsel on my knives and now I've got some photo "masters" to help with my pics some day...Whatta great forum we have here huh?...LOL...:D

I think if you go to the Buck Custom Shoppe, take a look at the sheath options, and can clone the tan leather Buck sheath so it will actually take the Buck knives, it would be a seller. ;) Buck seems to have discontinued it...

Trax,
How about this one? It doesn't have the flap but is similar and really takes the 110 nicely.

I just got done doing a write-up just like this on how to post pictures on a local car forum I'm on. Photobucket is nice and its what I used to post pictures when I introduced myself.

Post a link to your write-up; we can never have too many...There's at least one request for a thread-pic "how-to" every month...and even old dogs like me learn new stuff every day... ;) :)

If it was natural brown, had a snap flap, and the knife slid in & out *easily*, I'd buy one... ;)

They come in natural brown but I actually prefer it without the flap. The knife fits snuggly but comes out very easily. It also rides lower on your belt, which I also like. ;)

Testing the photo attachment, please be patient... Will start taking pics of knives if this works...

If you noticed, PhotoBucket changed their format slightly...Instead of being in a drop-down menu, the "Generate HTML and IMG code" button is in a side-by-side button row now...

Also, the "Generate HTML and IMG code" button is used mostly for the thumbnail code; you can lift the direct IMG link right from the code beneath each pic...

If you read this far...PLEASE use the thumbnail code...some of our members are AOL users and have to pay for any bandwidth over their monthly allotment...give them the choice of paying to see the full-size pic or just eyeballing the thumbnail and ignoring the full size...

Thankyouverymuch!... :D
