Would it be okay to post about a good deal on batteries, and also the site where I learned of the deal? Where would this be appropriate, if at all? Thanks!

No doubt we all use batteries for one thing and another, but when we need some we can find a good deal; all it takes is a quick web search.
Makes sense Cougar. I have seen mention of battery deals at Botach (we're talking years ago) in Gadgets & Gear, but I don't think I've ever seen one that was started as such. More recently, there's a lot of Buck 110 deals mentioned, and because of these threads, I picked up some nice Xmas presents this year for a song. There's also a really long thread about the Walmart Natives. Back when there used to be more Spyderco clearances at SMKW, folks would give a heads up when one rolled around. A post I read about Spyderco Standard and Rookie deals at SMKW is what got me hooked on Bladeforums in the first place. I know it's Spark's board to run as he sees fit, and I understand he runs a knife store as well. I guess I was just wondering out loud about how/why some of the "deal" threads survive when others meet a quick death. Thanks for your answer.Cougar Allen said:Well, it would have a better chance if it's about a knife rather than about batteries or laundry detergent, and a much better chance if it's a knife discussion that happens to mention where you can see the knife than if it's nothing but a shill. There's been some talk about the new knives at Walmart, for instance, and those threads have been discussing the knives, what steel they're made of, what country they're made in, not just where and what price. Those threads were definitely not started by the president of Walmart shilling his own stores, too.
