I have tried on quite a few occasions to get more makers to post in here.

On the flip side, I see Keith post sometimes in the "maker" area, and just saw Kevin post there today.

I think it would be cool to get collectors views on a lot of the stuff that comes up.

So come on over. :)

It is neat to see the work in progress thread of a knife (like Bruce Bump's 22 cal pistol knife) and then see it in a book or magazine. Lots of fun!

Most of the topics are about things that are interesting mainly to makers, but when I see a thread that interests me I do enjoy taking part.

Voicing opinions from the collectors' side of things, would be a nice way to help balance things out, IMHO. :)

There are things that you may not know HOW to do... but just hearing what you would want to see can help a maker look at things from a new/fresh angle. :)

Nick, the collector side is pretty annoying. Its like "make me a knife.. NOW!!!!". I am not sure you would want that in shop talk amongst you civilized folk.:D

Good point Keith, and good topic Nick. Probably the best way to get more maker participation here is to engage in more collector participation there.

This customs forum is actually about the only forum I participate in here. I visited the Maker's forum after a CKCA member alerted me the CKCA calendar was being mentioned over there.
I believe collector participation in the maker's forum would be beneficial for both.

It was nice to see you over there Kevin. Come back soon. I know time doesnt allow us to frequent too many forums but the CKCA could benefit from some seeds planted there and others.

There is a wealth of information in Shop Talk and many of the finest makers go there to glean from it and give some input. There are also allot of newbies that need some direction from you collectors.

Thanks Bruce.
I spent a little time poking around and found quite a few subjects of interest.
Lots of knowledge over there.

I believe that most of the time the knife maker Q&A section would be kinda dull for you folks. To be honest it can get kinda dull for the makers who have been on there for a long time. The same questions get asked quite allot.

Here in the Custom forum the topics and discusion can be interesting but are very specific as to what types of knives are "interesting". Basicly the customs forum is for consumer topics specificly "top shelf" knives. It may be hard to believe or imagine but I think its natural that the vast majorety do not feel they have anything to contribute to these topics.

Q&A forum is for knife making topics. I would think threads like "how do you heat treat O-1" would be kinda boring for you guys. If these type of threads are not boring at least you folks are not likely to be able to add much.

There are threads that get started here that may belong in the Q&A section. There are threads in the Q&A section that you guys could add some very valuable insight to.

I personally read the Customs section quite often. I get to see some knives that I would not see otherwise. I also like to hear the opinions about knives and the market. This may sound funny but I have may favorite collectors, they guys whos opinions I agree with the most.

I would be happy to see you guys post there from time to time butI dont expect it.

thanks

Yes, you guys should drop by "Shop Talk occasionally". But remeber that you actually have to be nice in there.:D If nothing else, you might see some stuff from newer makers who are afraid to post here;)

I don't see why makers would be afraid to post their work here.
We see new makers post their work (heck, even first knives) very often.
They are treated with respect and offered encouragement.

When they ask for critique, I believe it's most often given in a constructive and productive manner.
