I know its been asked many times before. I looked back through the archives what i could but hey, I'm a knifemaker, not a computer person so I really don't understand most of the stuff. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Besides I got some really neat stuff to show off & I signed up for a knifemakers membership today so I can do some of this stuff. Thanks.
P.S. Not sure if this was right place to post but since I'm a custom maker I thought maybe it might be.

Hi Patrick. Looking forward to your photos. :)

OK, here's how to do it. You have a Knifemaker membership, which allows you to post to the BladeForums server right from your hard drive. Cool!

When you go to post something, you get the window with the 'smilies' and text box etc...

Down at the bottom is a little window: 'Attach file...' Click on the Browse button and you will have to find your photo in your own hard drive. Once you do and you hit 'Open' it will load flag it to load to the BF server. Once you finish your text and hit 'Submit Reply' it will upload from your hard drive into the post. (This will take a short while because of the file transfer process.)

Once it says you have posted, then you can go into your post and see the little link for the picture that has been supplied. Members can click on this to view your picture in a separate window. So can you.

Sneaky tip: Click on this link and highlight the URL (http://www....) address in the top window) and copy it (CTRL+C). Close the pic, go to the edit button on YOUR own post. Hit the 'IMG' button and paste (CTRL+V) the URL in the opening window. Hit OK, and it will insert the pic display requirements in gibberish like this:

Make sure you hit enter once or twice with the cursor just before the tag so it places a space between your picture and your signature. Like it looks above.

Got it? Let's see how you do.

#### EDIT Hmmmmmm. Knifemaking membership allows you to post knives for sale in the forums. But, it does NOT say you can post pics. You need a Gold or Premium membership Maybe this is in addition to this level. You can link your existing pics from another website to here (as I do), but I think that's not what you want.

Tried it and this thing came up and said the file i was trying to attach was to big. the picture on my hard drive says its 1280 x 960 . I took the pic with a fuji finepics 2800. I have no idea whats going on.

When it tells you that the file is to large, does it give you a limit as to what size is acceptable? Does your camera have a setting that will allow you to take photos that are 640 X 480 pixels? If so, use this setting. If not, do you have any photo editing software such as Photoshop installed on your computer?

OH yeah, I forgot that critical part....

Keith is correct. There is a little note under the 'Attach File' sign that says: Maximum file size: 102400 bytes. That said, keep your pics down to under 100kb or do it simply by resizing them down to 640 wide. 1024 wide is just too big.

Filesize is unrelated to pixel size, in that they BOTH can be changed independently, but suffice to say the smaller pixel width will always yield a smaller file size, and that's the restriction.

Clear as mud! ;)

There is a size restriction on photos being attached:

No higher (vertically) than 600 pixels
No wider (horizontally) than 800 pixels

A knifemaker subscription is the same as a Gold membership. You can post pics. It would be tough to sell your wares without being able to post pics.

I've got alot of pics. on my hard drive that actually my wife had taken for me, and every one of them is 1280 x 960 . What I don't know if it is from the camera that way or when she put them on to the computer that way. I have no idea how to change either one. I'm not even sure of the program she's running. Does "picture it express" sound like anything. Now I guess ya'lls wondering why i'm not asking her all this. Well, shes not talking to me at this time, shes being a B#*!^ and we are on the brink. She went behind my back and took my name off the buisness acct. at the bank so I can't have access to it etc. It's a messed up situation right now. I reckon she's to stupid to realize the mess she has got herself into. Anyway it's a long story and I don't need to get on a rant about this on this forum, something I need to save for W & C. I just need to find out how I can get pics up so I can hopefully get some things going.
Thanks all.

Patrick,

Boy has THIS gone off topic... ;)

Back to the photos: Yup, all those pics were probably taken at that size. And, they are also probably very large in file size as well.

YOU need to use a picture editing program and one-by-one open each pic and use the software to 'resize' it down to 640 wide (the exact ratio would probably be 640x480).

Then you can save the smaller file to another directory (a folder you created) so the original large files aren't changed. Otherwise they will be rewritten down to the smaller size when it asks you to save it upon closing, but you CAN'T resize them up.

ALL editing programs--even the cheapest ones allow resizing. Somewhere in there would also be a way to view the file size. At the least Windows Explorer can.

So, you have a little homework to do. It's part of the trade, my friend.

Coop

So would it be as easy as going into My Pictures and editing the size or does it get more complicated than that. Man I hate homework!

This looks like a fine time for someone to introduce a digital photo and posting class at Blade or other similar venue. :)

Patrick,
Come on. If I can do it, anyone can....:)

See, Patrick? Now THERE'S a vote of confidence from Kit...! ;)

OK, you got your pic posted in the Gallery. If anything it's TOO small. It is only 320x240 dimensionaly, and it's only 14kb filesize. It's clear, but it really looks like you need some detail and enlargements. (Hey--ain't that what your WIFE said to you??!!   :p ) I couldn't resist.... :)

Make it a little larger next time. Don't reduce it quite so much.

Next edit it and get it to show in the post, like I talked about up above.
