Asking for a IRL for photo posting?
If you aren't willing to pay to become a member of some level then you've got to use a 3rd party image hosting site. I think you can use Instagram links, if you have that. Otherwise photobucket and others similar are the only way. I started a basic member but the file sizes are too limited for my phone camera, so I upgraded to gold. It's only like $30 for an entire year so... I say do it! With those memberships you can upload pics directly from your device. I do it straight off my phone gallery. Very convenient and easy!

The simple and easy way is use a free host site such as Imgur.
Create a free account, upload the pics to your host account, copy the BBCode link, paste the link here in the text box. Pics need to be .jpg, .gif or .png file types.
The links (URLs) should have IMG tags like this-
[img]https://i.imgur.com/3BlA71j.jpg[/img]
This will show the picture in-line with the body of the post like this without needing to click on links to go off-site-

Don't use social media hosting such as iCloud, Facebook or Google as those seem to have a lot of problems with showing pictures here.

Odd how seemingly every time a new member asks how to post pictures the answers get buried here in this section where to OP won't ever look. This question gets asked at least once a day here. You'd think that there would be an easily located link to a tutorial thats easy to follow so new members looking to post pictures can do so.

Like a sticky in the technical support forum?

I just clicked through them and all the links seem to be broken.

(The threads probably exist on the forum, yet since they look to be older threads, I'd wager the vbulletin to Xenforo switch buggered the link. Same thing that happens when you click on an older link on someone's feedback profile.)

Might be a good time to add a few of the more recent "how to" threads to the sticky.

No, like a link to a current how-to that relates to posting pictures now. That post is 8 years old and now mostly irrelevant.
From the number of posts asking about knives and how to post a picture, it seems as if there should be a tutorial that has instructions that are current to whats going on at this point in time. It should be posted in the General forum in particular, and Levines. You know, the places where its most needed? If it isn't obvious most new members aren't going to go looking around the dusty dark corners to find it.......and many just give up and leave.

I'll look at updating RevDevil's thread.
As for posting yet another sticky in General, the staff will at least discuss it, but the number of folks who actually read the stickies is vanishingly small.
How much is my knife worth? comes to mind. So does the rules for the exchange. Plainly posted, never read.

edited to add:
I have updated RevDevils thread.

Using imgur for posting pictures is not at all irrelevant and is still the recommended method.

General and Levine's aren't for tech support.

Can a welcome message or email be sent to new members automatically? If so, put in the buy/sell rules, value questions rules, and how to post pictures info.

The buy / sell rules are at the top of every for sale forum and in the FAQ found at the Help Link (bottom, right) of every page: https://www.bladeforums.com/help/. Every new user gets a welcome message with a link to the FAQ.

I get the impression that new folks are not clicking the link to the FAQs. FWIW, a certain percentage *might* read the text it was part of the message. Some more is better than less.

At a certain point, folks need to conduct themselves like responsible adults...which includes reading the rules, and following the guidelines. It's not just the new guys that don't bother until they receive a "warning".

I don't mind hand holding to a point...but there's a limit, and only so many hours in a day.

(This reply is not specific to posting images.)

An automated message might reduce the need for hand holding is my thinking. But it's not my circus, so I'll butt out now.

The information in the link wasn't relevant as it was outdated and most of the links didn't even work.
I use Imgur and generally recommend others to do the same.

Concerning General and Levines, thats where lots of new members ask about knives, what they have, and how to post pictures of the knives they are asking about. This isn't about "tech support", its about helping new members by showing them how the picture posting process works (or doesn't work) on this forum. The FAQs linked to here
https://www.bladeforums.com/help/
have no mention of how to post images, just rules on whats allowed. There are a lot of folks out there who don't understand how to use image hosts or what a URL or BBCode is or what HTML tags are or which links are for what. Given that new members ask this same question on a daily basis, and its generally left to more experienced members to help them understand how to post a picture, I don't see why a clearly labeled and easy to follow tutorial on how to post pictures is not available in an easy to find post on the opening page where its visible to all without having to search for it.
I participate in a number of different forums and have done so for 25 years now, and I'm a forum admin on one that uses the same Xenforo platform as this forum. I have never seen so many problems with picture posting as there are here. You'd think somebody would have stepped up with a user friendly solution by now.
