Posting Thumbnail Photos

Can anyone help me in posting thumbnails of the pictures I want to put in threads? I want to be able to post several thumbnail photos that a reader can click on if they want to see it, but it won;t take so long to load the thread as with full-size photos.

I'm uploading images to Photobucket right now, and I can't find where I might convert my pictures to thumbnails.

Photobucket has a max image size of 1024x768 so before uploading I resize the photos using Paint Shop Pro.

How can I do these in thumbnails?

Hi Stretch,

First thing you need is a thumbnail photo hosted. (I pay $25 per yr. for Fototime, and one of the benefits is a thumbnail, small web, and original size image all immediately available, just with a different suffix.) Does Photobucket do this for you? If not, then you need to downsize and host two images: thumb and original.

Resize, and host the thumbnail.

Then use this code to link to the larger image:

http://www.thumbnail.jpg

(remove the spaces within the brackets to work.)

Alternatively, click the image icon on the posting toolbar, insert the thumbnail image URL with brackets in your post. Then highlight the whole code and click the 'Insert link' button, and insert the large image URL when asked. It will complete it for you. Like this:

Clear as mud? ;)

Wow. Thanks for the information. Yes, it's as clear as the Amazonian mud that Bear Grylls drank and got sick from. (((:D)))

I get the idea. I'm going to mess with it a little. Photobucket does have a "pro" version that you pay for, and they probably offer those services. I'll try posting two images....a thumbnail and the original, then try linking them together like you said.

Again....gracias.

The same works with photobucket regular (free) services, the thumbnail pic is named th_pname (where pname is the pic's name including extension). Like this (try to quote my post to see the code behind the thumbnail and pic):

Excellent info Flavius.

Fototime handles this three ways:
12345/orig.jpg (Full size at whatever is uploaded)
12345/standard.jpg (640 wide)
12345/thumbnail.jpg (150 wide)

I don't write in the code myself. I just use the image buttons and highlighting for the URL method.

OK. I see the logic now. You have to paste twice when you want to show a thumbnail? I mean, you have to manipulate your post a little, or does photobucket do it for you?

I'm going to work on this now. I might have it solved before you reply.

THe mud is clear! Thanks to both of you. I understand the process now by "quoting" your posts, robbing the code to get to the images, pasting into Notepad (so I can see it and doctor my own images). It takes a little editing but maybe I can figure out how to do it in one process from Photobucket. For now, this'll do!! (((:D)))

You did good, for the first one you forgot to delete the [/
at the end of it but both thumb and pic still work :)

Thanks for inquiring Stretch. I use photobucket too and I learned something today.

We just received a digital camera the other day and I've been taking and posting pictures. It's hard for me to open some of the posts that are pic-heavy because I'm on a 28.8 dialup connection! So here I am posting these large pictures and beginning to suspect that I'm not the only one bothered by this.

So now with the "toenails", I'm not robbing so much download time with my pics. Now, if only I can get somebody interested in seeing them!!! :D
