These were waiting for me when I got home today. Mini Trapper with gray bone, smooth chestnut bone peanut and a Victorinox Day Packer. I got the Day Packer more out of curiosity. Not a bad little knife. Short blade for the length of handle. It has a synthetic handle but it's not smooth like most SAKs are. It has a very light pebble texture. Think bead blasted opposed to a satin finish. It'll get a work out this weekend on a day long hike. It will go and my Opinel will stay home.
The Mini Trapper and the Peanut are going to be my "dressed up" knives I think.

Nice.

I go to the hardware store to look at the case knives. I need to make some one pull some out for me. I think my 7 year old son could really use a small yellow sodbuster. I bought him a GEC made Scharade small pioneer that he cannot open with his little soft nails.

Postman brought me a small custom this weekend, that I won. It was a pleasant Fathers day surprise. I am home alone for a few weeks with no wife and kids, and had just missed getting home from a 2 day canoe trip in time to catch the post office open. I checked my box on a whim, and bamo, they had left it in the po box. (checked on Sunday).

Nothing like the smell of "new" steel in the mail.

I need to pick up a sodbuster at some point. You might also consider something like an Opinel 6. Very easy to open and easier price. I actually carry one pretty regularly.

Nice knives! I think the mini trapper looks especially sweet, but I'm partial to wharncliffes.

It's my first actual wharnie. I've got some sheepsfoot shaped blades and a fixed blade that might be considered a wharncliffe, but for folders this is the first. I like it a lot.

I really like that Victorinox Day Packer. The nylon scales are really nice. I have a red Gardener. Here it is along with the mini copperhead (no extra charge for the ant walking between the Case blades).

I actually looked really long at a Mini Copperhead before I saw and ordered the Mini Trapper. I like that red Gardner. Looks like it has a bit more blade than the Day Packer.

The cutting length of the gardener blade is 2.125", and yes the mini copperhead is a fantastic knife. I do want to get one of those mini trappers with the wharncliffe blade, though. Good choice!

Well while it's not the same knife, I have a couple of Case pen knives with blades at both ends. I didn't have a single bladed slipjoint.
Maybe the Day Packer and Gardener are closer than it looks. The cutting edge on the Day Packer is just over 2 inches per my ruler. Might be an optical illusion since the Day Packer has belly and the Gardener doesn't.

I'm actually not sure how long that version has been around. This one has a date of 8/4/11. It's funny because I went to get some other items for a friend and started shopping around. I had probably a dozen knives in my shopping cart and realized that I shouldn't do that right now. So I cut it down to those three in the pic. (And a peanut for a friend seen in my other thread "Gift for a dear friend *Pic added*")
I need to lay off getting new steel for a while. Need to save for vacation. :)

How'd you get it down to an exact date?

Mine is a 2009:

I was aware of only the Tiny Trappers with wharncliffes until someone here kindly pointed me to this Mini, knowing I liked Case's mediterranean blue (oh, I do). I didn't realize there were more Minis with wharncliffes out there, let alone that sweet gray one you just brought in.

Edited to add: does yours have a wharncliffe main, with a spey blade? I ask only because I just realized the Case logo (with date system of dots and x's) is visible on your wharncliffe blade, while mine is on the clip. Interesting.

Pert,

Look on the sticker on the end of the box. There should be a date on it.

Well, I'll be.

Who knew?!

All this time I've been parsing out the Case logos on each main blade to figure out the year of manufacture, while the whole date was there on the label all specified-like, the entire time!

And here I thought I was all l'arned out for the day. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the label on the box of my Mini arrived scuffed off where the date should be.

More unfortunately (because I'll personally regret this), I threw out the label for another because it was affixed to the clear wrap around a gift tin.

Paradiggum, I meant to say this earlier: it's sure nice to see those pictures of your knives, from the get-go. :)

Nice adds, 'diggum -

You might like this pic I took from Blade - this was the nursery for Case peanuts!

I'll be honest, after a long day I'm too lazy to unbox them and spread them all out nice and neat. So here is a teaser. Some day I'll have to get them all out for a family pic. But today is not that day. :)
