Hopefully this doesn't get deleted as well. I'd just like to ask why posts that are on topic and don't break rules get deleted?

Seems questioning or discussing any other view point isn't allowed if a certain mod disagrees.

Specifically, in the Crucible thread several posts were removed that were discussing how having the same chemistry doesn’t necessarily make the steel identical to what Crucible makes. Processes that are unique to each foundry also matter.

That view point was deleted. We used the analogy of a recipe to make a cake or pizza being made by different people could result in different end results despite the same ingredients. Which is 100% on topic and true.

I pointed out that process differences like carpenters "reticulated refractory filters" is unique to them and they don't necessarily share that with their competitors. That would impact the steel being produced, no?

All on topic discussion, just being removed because no questioning certain people is allowed?

I don’t know for sure but intellectual property and patents are vigorously protected and maybe some posts are getting to close to that threshold. Or it could be something totally different.

I had a few lighthearted magnacut posts go away (that I accepted). The explanation was they wanted to keep that thread on a very narrow path.

So discussing other mills or chemistry or anything else is likely going to keep getting flagged.

I would say just start a new thread to talk about those finer points of what may happen next and it'll fill up with replies.

The topic of that thread is Crucible potentially going under and other companies potentially making their steels, which is exactly what we were discussing. I understand wanting to keep on topic, but I fail to see how discussing the topic is off topic. Seems like controlling what we can question, even if it's on topic.

I can't say, I'm not staff. I've just been reading that thread and trying to stay within the lines.

First of all, your post about whether the material would be the same if other companies produced it wasn't moved or deleted...go back and read...what were moved were posts unconnected to the subject matter of the thread, or that were asked and answered in the thread previously, or were otherwise diverting the discussion from the subject matter at hand.

Moderators are here to help moderate and keep things on track. It has nothing to do with "freedom of speech" or "my rights" or anything else.

Read through the thread and you will see that questions regarding the ability of other concerns to produce the material in question were not removed...and were in fact responded to.

There is no basis for playing the victim card here. Nobody removed any posts because of animus or prejudice. If you have evidence of such, please produce it.

If you want to start your own thread about the relative merits of various steel producers, feel free. But your complaint that you don't have free rein to go down whatever side path you choose to in someone else's thread, is lacking merit in my opinion.

Feel free to ask the site owner to withhold the pay I don't receive for spending my time doing this job.

(For the record, no posts were deleted. They were moved to the moderator's only section.)

That's fair. That's my question, we were on topic and broke no rules which should be within the lines. Just looks like questions regardless of validity are censored if a mod disagrees with it. If that's the case it really hampers open discussion as we walk on egg shells trying not to get our posts deleted even when on topic.

The post was in general knife discussion, the topic was Crucible potentially going under and other companies potentially making their steels. Our posts that were removed were discussing exactly that. How were they not on topic?

I had a post removed as well, but the explanation was that mine was a reply to a validly deleted post and would have made no sense if left behind. Just collateral damage.

I'm not going to pick a side since I can see and agree with both sides of this issue. I will say that you should start a new thread because I am interested in your question and the answer it may receive.

I've had stuff removed, or moved to their Moderator's Only page (now only $7.99!), and if I ever feel like I need clarification I find it's just best to reach out to moderation directly through PM.

I think it's a valid question, thanks for chiming in. I don't know why it isn't considered on topic for that thread but a separate thread couldn't hurt either.

You can't though, because the move is usually anonymous, no ?

Any time I had a post removed, I got a notification where the moderator included an explanation.

I answered the question above. The specific posts which were moved were moved for the reasons stated. Again...the posts regarding the question of whether other companies and their equipment could produce equivalent, or nearly equivalent steel were not removed.

Posts that were off-topic, political in nature or related to NY state's taxation policy were moved offline.

Nothing that was germane to the discussion of Crucible's possible end of operations, nor the feasibility of other companies to pick up the baton were moved. In fact, those questions were answered by people who are actually experts on the topic.

I don't intend to repeat myself ad nauseum on this. The post I made above answers the reasons why the few posts which were moved, were moved. It wasn't done for the purpose of hiding facts, protecting nsm nsm , or because I had a personal issue with the individual posting.

That's it.

I'm not speaking about posts of political nature or off topic posts. I'm talking about the posts specifically on topic of the OP. The experts didn't want to discuss it so you removed it even though they were valid questions and on the topic.

You are dismissive of anything you disagree with, which as a super mod gives you immense discretion to remove whatever you want. OK, but on topic posts that don't break rules should be allowed to stay or the lines are whatever you decide which makes it hard to have open discussion lest our posts be removed despite no violations.

For the record, I just went back and looked at all of the removed posts which were diverse in their messages, such as discussing various automobile manufacturers and the venues in which their products were produced, taxation in NY, the percentage of steel worldwide used for making knives, and this, my favorite nugget:

Here in the US pizza is very popular......
How easy is it to get New York pizza in Other states in America?

In reviewing those posts moved offline, there was genuinely no information extracted from the thread that was moving the discussion forward, nor without which the discussion was being stymied.

Sorry to disappoint. I stand by my good faith attempt to keep the thread moving forward and on track.

That post from Crag the Brewer Crag the Brewer that you snipped was specifically referencing that ingredients or chemistry alone doesn't give you an exact replica of what Crucible made. Not a fair snippet at all. There's nothing to win here and you have all the power. I disagree with your decision to remove the on topic posts and misrepresent what Crag the Brewer Crag the Brewer said.

But respect it none the less. I got nothing else. Take care.

That's not only a lie, but a damn lie. And a pathetic one at that. You are a sad and vain little man to make such a spurious remark.

I will waste no more time with you.

If Spark Spark wants to evaluate the matter, along with my colleagues, they are free to do so and provide feedback. I stand by my decision. And the evidence is available for their persual.

Don't start shit with the mods. It won't go well for you.
