(Karda, if I'm not allowed to do this please just do your mod-thang ;))

Hey guys! I ordered up an 8oz bottle of Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil a couple days ago (yes yes - I could have just picked it up at a sporting goods store, but the closest one is a couple bus rides away) and due to a silly net flux, I accidentally rung up two orders without knowing it... today, two packages arrived at my doorstep and I honestly don't need both and don't see the point in returning it.

SoOoOOoO - I'm giving away one 8oz bottle of BC Tru-Oil - shipping covered. I know it isn't much... but hey, I'm a broke arse college kid. I'm sure someone could use it and might appreciate the offer. The only requirement is a post with a picture of your wooden handled kukri (or preferably a few) that needs some polishing up. If you've recently sharked one and it's inbound, I'll take that as well. In case there's a couple people interested, I'll just use randomizer.org to pick out a winner. Let's call the deadline for entry... Some time on monday at my discretion? No point in setting a specific time as that's just a hassle :)

Oh, and in case you're not familiar with the product, refer to this thread and here's a picture of what Steve Fergeson managed with his:

Haha - thanks man. I figure there must be a couple new HI members on here who don't have any and would like to shine up and protect the handles on their new acquisitions :)

If they come in on Monday I'll let ya know ;)

BTW, like Warty said, really nice of you to do this

I don't have a problem with this killa. Its a giveaway.
I've been looking for some Tru-Oil myself.

I have been looking for Tru-Oil since I saw that post but no luck. I was about to order some online tomorrow, so I guess I'll kick things off. I only have 2 wood handle kukris that are only for display, the MKII and an old Nepalese Sherpa Villager that cleaned up nicely.

1941 MKII in original state from IMA.

Here it is after some TLC and gentle cleaning.

I still want to take the handles up another notch and protect them from further wear. (without making them too pretty of course)

Hopefully, in a hundred years someone will pick up this MKII and feel its energy run up his arm like I did! I've seen a bunch of posts about how to pick the right kukri, don't worry, the right kukri will tell you when you found it. If it feels like a tool in your hand then you just have a hunk of metal. If it feels like part of your arm (and sings when you pick it up) you found a partner! Ur, um, I mean the right kukri :)

I would like to participate. I have a Wajaski that needs shining. But not sure if users with a basic registration can post pictures.

Thanks Karda! I'll be counting you into the drawing as well as I see absolutely no reason why a mod should be exempt

From what I've heard, the upload system on HI can be a bit buggy anyways... I'd personally suggest creating a photobucket account or just using imageshack. I tend to use the former as I can have all my pictures in an album and pictures are easy to link to :)

I hate to be picky, but do you perchance own any HI kuks? I'll still be counting you into the drawing, but it might feel a tad unfair to others as this was meant as an HI giveaway

Yes, I have a WWII from HI. But it has a shinny horn handle, I figured you were looking for a worn out fixer-upper for the contest. Would anyone let a HI kuk get run down???

I would love to try some out. I'll throw my hat in the pot. Generous giveaway. My ASTK and I both thank you for the chance!

I post pix all the time???

You just have to host them elsewhere and then use the BB code to link to them like this...

(replace the "()" with these, "[]")

(img)url of image(/img)

and you wind up with something like this!:D

Awesome guys - I'll probably be doing the drawing after I get off work at around 9:30 PDT tonight. That should give plenty of time for anyone else who wants to throw their name into the hat. Good luck everyone!

hat - throw - score?
I've got an M43 that's in good shape, but a little oil on hand would be a good thing.
kudo's for the giveaway!

Just don't mistake that I put a picture up to mean I want in the drawing...

That is why I put up one with a horn handle...

I have a Dhar handled Tamang that just got the wood smoothed with some 320 grit and some 0000 steel wool.
I also have a satisal wood handled Bonecutter coming in.

Don't count me in, though. i have a can of tung oil and a can of linseed oil, and a can of teak oil out in my shop/barn.

I'd like to see what some of the other guys here can do with the tru-oil.

And it looks like Davino is our winner! Thanks to everyone for participating

(sorry for the crummy screenshot - I'm in the process of redoing my computer and haven't installed photoshop yet)

Davino - shoot me an email with your address and I'll get it mailed out within the next couple of days!
