Potential no-no with Hinderer

I have a 3rd Gen XM-18, And I'm not happy with the detent. It has that a little shake and the blade would fall out, or when I try to use the flipper and the deployment is inconsistent. Has anyone actually modified their detent hole on the blade or put in a new detent ball? I'm thinking of drilling the detent hole on the blade deeper or maybe augment the hole. Thoughts?

Buy a $5 knife and try it on that first. Also, I've heard that some people have trouble machining a blade that has already been hardened. No experience there myself.

I'd contact the manufacturer before I'd start drilling around on some 500$ knife, but maybe thats just me...

On their warranty FAQ states that they don't fix detents whether they're weak or strong. When I'm not the only one with detent issues I would think they would be willing to fix it. Considering that I've spend this much on a knife, I want it to be perfect. This detent thing would be what I consider a flaw in workmanship unless their flippers are designed to have a wrist flick to deploy. I pretty much realized that I don't really need a lifetime warranty on beefy knife like a Hinderer. Besides whether it'll be covered by the warranty would be up to their judgement. So the warranty is pretty much useless unless the pivot or the blade breaks. If I break either it pretty much says that I'm abusing the knife which translates into no warranty.

I own 2 Hinderers and would be the first to say: maybe that knife is not for you. I would definitely NOT mess with it yourself, as you will destroy value and probably not accomplish your goal. I can't flip mine without some wrist, but it just does not bother me. So I understand the issue.

Is anyone worried about injury? To me, safety should be the most important factor when carrying a knife daily. Hairlesstwinkie- if this thing were to open up on you while hiking (or possibly a fall) it could be game over.

Locutus hit the nail right on the head. Also Hinderer wil not modify their detent. All it takes to deply the blade is a little wrist action that's the way Rick designed it to work.

I've seen detent balls that have been worn down with use, that might be the case. Try to develop a little technique. I know that I had a hard time flipping my Hinderer when I first got it. After about a week or so I had it down
