My parents are potters and I needed a better way to store and show off my knife collection, so I thought of a good design to make out of clay that would accommodate all shapes and sizes. I love the before and after kiln pictures it really shows you how different the glazes look before hand. They came out great!! Just wanted to share and see what people thought :)

They look great! :)

They look great. Howsabout making them with a lid? Keeps off the dust and prying eyes/hands.

I like the lid idea! Living with my parents in the countryside while job hunting post-grad so they're pretty safe ;)

Those are badass. I used to throw pottery in college. Studio art specializing in ceramics was actually my minor!

Your parents are very talented! Love that rutile blue! And do I spy a green celadon? Very nice work!

Good catch on the glazes AntDog! These are actually fired at cone 6 in one of my dad's new electric kilns. It's so easy now it's like running a dishwasher it's all automatic. My dad started with his own custom cone 10 kiln 37 years ago and he's been in business ever since. You can check out my parent's business Sturbridge Pottery at www.sturbridgepottery.com

Very cool! I'll definitely give it a look! So your Dad had a cone 10 kiln? That's pretty hot! Did he throw a lot of porcelain? I've used some of the newer automatic electric kilns - they are pretty cool. Just set it and forget it! I've been out in the shed sweating my balls off in front of a gas fired monster plenty of nights! Too many nights man!

Most of the stuff I've done was cone 6 - 8 or so. Mostly stoneware, but a few other clays too. I've also done plenty of lowfire stuff - Raku, pitfire, etc. I've thrown some porcelain, but it's pretty tough for me. It's like trying to throw butter. No "body" to it at all! It's just very delicate and floppy!

Anyhow, tell your folks they did a great job on the knife displays, and I'll definitely check out their site. As you can tell, I have a real soft spot in my heart for great pottery
