Is there a way to speed up the break in proccess of the CRK pouch? I think I remember someone saying to wet it or apply a conditioner.

I just wet the pouch with the knife inside and stuck it in my pocket until it was dry. Did that a few times.

while we are on pouch's, does any one know where i can get a older CRK pouch for a umfaan.i know the logo is different on the older ones. many thanks. i do like that worn look also.

Use Saddle soap, leather conditioner or neatsfoot oil. I don't think I would wet them and leave it dry. Might dry out to much. Good Luck

Lazy man's quick boning method: soak sheath, remove excess water. Put knife in pouch and align it the way you want it. Put pouch and knife in ziplock. Take some 1-2" open cell foam and position on either side, place between two boards and clamp in a large vise, *hard* for an hour or two. Remove from vise, remove sheath from bag, remove knife from sheath, and let dry overnight. Wax/etc. as desired.

lazy man's? That sounds like a lot of work!!!!

Not compared to traditional boning methods! :) Total actual ET on the process I outlined is about 40 seconds, maybe 55 if you're slow or it's the first time. ;)

A member here posted a few months ago about accidentally running his pouch (with the Sebenza still inside) through with his laundry (washing machine only) . . . and it turned out well.

All I have ever used is the leather conditioner (Shafmaster Leather Co. Cream) that I use on my leather gloves. It softens and darkens the leather.

Ummmmmm. That was me and it took all the dye out of the leather. I didn't mean to do that and the sheath looks like garbage now.

This is what I do, basically emulating what happens in a sweaty pocket over a fair amount of carry. At the risk of annoying folks due to repetition, I'll re-post how my Mnandi pouch turned out:

Having stated my proess, others have methods that sound faster and better to me.

Ah, those are the pictures I saw a few weeks ago! I liked the way it turned out for you so I copied :D What did you do for the opening of the pouch, anything special?

There were some times when I pushed the Mnandi down into the pouch hard, then folded over the leather opening in an attempt to make the leather take a set with the knife in that position. The result is what you see.

That's just like a glove!

With the way the pouch turned out, I can turn the pouch containing the knife upside-down, moderately shake it, and the knife doesn't come out. I need to squeeze the sides, sort o' like those old plastic oval shaped coin purses used to work, before the knife will come out.

Fooj,
Is there any reason why you carry your Mnandi lanyard hole/clip down?
Ive always carried my CRK's in their pouch as if I have a lanyard sticking out.

Most folks remove the clip for pouch carry. I use the clip as an impediment to slipping out. By my estimation, that impedance is maximized with the clip oriented open end towards the pouch opening.

BTW, the other reason that I leave the clip on is because IMHO, the Mnandi clip is the classiest knife clip on the planet. :)

I keep the clip on mine when in the pouch, as I pocket clip the knife out of the pouch when not at work.

The conditioning of the sheath happens pretty quickly just from repeated in pocket carry.

I use mink oil on mine from time to time to keep the leather from drying out - especially in the summer when the sweating returns!!

I keep the clip on my knives even if I use the pouch. Reason being is sometimes I may want to clip it to my pocket.
