I've been looking at the makers for sale forum and a lot of the custom pieces these guys make look awesome. I'm looking at a fixed blade hunter to carry in the woods with me during deer season but I'm not sure if the pouch style or kydex sheaths that are made for them would be secure enough. Sitting in a stand all day I think would be fine but when we start pushing through the thick stuff I'm not so sure. Does anyone have experience with them? I would absolutely hate to lose a knife as nice as some of those made.

my experience with kydex sheaths has been pretty good. i would think that a properly fit kydex sheath would hold you knife securely through just about any activity you'd live through. As far as leather goes a pouch type sheath with a snap flap should keep your knife safe and sound. the down side to both is you'll probably need to send your knife off to the sheath maker so that it can be used for fitting, not a big problem but i hate to send something i like throught he mail, i always worry about it getting lost. and remember a knife is a tool first if you don't use it what fun is it. later, ahgar

Kydex is probably the most secure, and toughest sheath material.

A leather pouch with a snap will be secure as well, but will take longer to remove and replace the knife.

Thats what I mean, the pouch sheaths shown with the knives don't have a snapped keeper on them. They do however hold the knife more than half way up the handle which looks ok for tree stand duty but not for making drives- same with the kydex. Hell, when we're doing drives through a thick cedar swamp I'm literally going over logs, under logs, pushing through brambles and thorns all the while getting tangled up by brush pulling and knocking off anything that isn't securely attached to me. I can't wait til I'm one of the old guys who get to post while the others do all the hard work. Speed of removal/replacement isn't an issue for me since its hunting and I'll be using it mainly for field dressing- after all the deer isn't going anywhere at that point.

Hey Guys...

TKC

Thanks very much for the mention..

LWW...

I can assure you that if the sheath is made properly that the knife will Not require any type of snap, strap or buckle to help retain the knife in the sheath.

Please feel free to drop me a note if you have any questions..
