does anyone know where i can get a red powder coat on a blade? i don't even know if it's possible but, i thought it would look cool on a blade with bloodwood handles.

Magnum, I bought some stuff called Gunkote. Its black, but it might be available in other colors. You might even be able to add pigment to get a dark red. Check out gun shops or gun refinishing sites.

Don't you have to heat metal to make powder coat work?

Might be bad for the tempor, and I can't picture it being to durable either.

With Gunkote and I believe black nitride, the temperature you heat the finish to isn't near hot enough to anneal or soften the steel. Gunkote is only 150-160 degrees. I finished a 38 with it and it never had any problems at all. Even cleaning solvents didn't hurt the finish. Take care! Michael

Try in the next big city around you for industrial finishers. Good quality powder coating is hard to do at home. Having it done isn't expensive but the coating isn't very abraison resitant either.

Gunkote is what used to be called Kalguard. I have it in black, OD green and grey. Be sure to spray it on wearing a mask in a Dust free place. Then bake acccording to instructions. Gives a good finish. That';s what Chris Reeve uses on his fixed blades.

Also, before you spray it on, soak the item in almost boiling water for a few minutes to remove any oil from your hands. After that, never touch it without having rubber gloves on. I did a snub nosed revolver that ended up with some nice fingerprints in the finish because I didn't clean it right.
