Would this ruin the heat treat? I was told by my local guy that it will be baked at 400 degrees.
The BladeForums.com 2024 Traditional Knife is available! Price is $250 ea (shipped within CONUS).

All coated Bussekin blades are powder coated.![]()
Had a Busse DLC treated by IonBond for a Buyer once. Called Jerry to be sure, since the process was lengthy (something like 18 hours, IIRC) and a considerable amount of the time during this would have the knife at a constant 425 degrees F. He said that this doesn't come close to the temps required to affect his HT. I should note that this knife's handles were removed for the treatment, and I don't know what temps micarta & G-10 can take.
It came out great.

That really does look great. Was it satin underneath that or can you do it to a fresh stripped CG?
WOW, that's beautiful.
I'm pretty sure Micarta starts getting pretty soft and squishy around 350* G10 not so much and can handle higher temps.
Yeah but Busse powder coating coating might not be the same as other powder coating. It's more the bake temp I'm concerned with.
Since we dont have the competition finish anymore I vote to get rid of the crappy coating and use DLC instead. Looks MUCH better and will go thru materials easier
That's a question for IonBond. However, I was told that the cleaner the surface, the better the results. This one has a Busse satin finish underneath.
The real question is... Why would you ask a local guy about INFI? The shop does customization work at very fair prices!Would this ruin the heat treat? I was told by my local guy that it will be baked at 400 degrees.
