Could someone give me an explanation of how powdered steels are made? I'm a complete layman, but you can get technical if you wish.

I told my dad about this new knife steel, CPM-440V, that is over 2% carbon and holds an edge for a very long time. He said, "What? There's no steel over 2% carbon!" I told him that it was a powdered steel, but felt stupid because I could not explain what that meant.

yes...go to above site and print it out for him....there have been a number of articles in the various knife mags but it might be some work to find them all...contact phil wilson if you really want some detail...hes the man for info on v steels...hes a retired engineer and has written most of the articles mentioned above...makes knives out of v steels exclusively....he just took a tour thru the crucible plant...upcoming in knife magazine article...
