Im a new member

I own a kershaw blackout, and recently got my girlfriend a leek

we both love the power assisted opening feature

I know sog makes some knives that also have this feature

I was wondering how many other knife makers offer something in the line of a power assisted folding knife

thanks

Welcome to Bladeforums! :D

Assisted openers are showing up all over. Even Buck has one now.

Camillus has a few, Darrel Ralph designs: the Aftermath, the Dominator, Heat, and Sizzle. The Aftermath is about the biggest folder you'll see around, and the Sizzle is one of the smallest.

Of course, Kershaw has a whole line-up of Ken Onion designs: the Leek, Scallion, Chive ... :)

Check out the Camillus Heat. This is an awesome knife for the price.

The assisted feature really snaps open fast on this knife.

Another vote for the Heat. Really great Darrel Ralph design. I've got the Dominator, sort of a deluxe, Ti handled version, which is also very nice (but much more expensive), but in some ways my son's Heat is even nicer. On the Heat you can mount the clip on either side, and the Heat has a feature that allows you to convert it to manual and then back to assist in a couple of minutes. Also, the fold-over lock design of the Heat is, I think, a step forward in liner lock design because it ensures that more of the lock bar will engage the tang regardless of wear. The Heat is a very fast openner, especially considering the relatively large size of the blade. For about $50, you can't beat a Heat.

BTW I've owned Kershaw and SOG assisted openning knives, but so far nothing seems too beat the Heat. Even though I have the Dominator, the Heat is on my list of knives to buy.

Thanks for the welcome :)

and thanks for all the great info

my girlfriend just got the chive yesterday too, but she is pissed that the scallion does not some in the same all silver brushed finish, she wanted all 3 to match

not bad for someone that didn't like knives at all a few months ago

now she loves them

I have a kershaw blur on order, but might try to cancel it and get a boa, the blur is nice but the boa has that great index finger opener too

I will have to check out the Camillus knives
I have heard of the brand but don't know much about them
does anyone have a link to the knives they mentioned?

I didn't see them on the camillus website

thanks again

Here is a link to Camillus Heat http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=4770 .
Good knife for the money.
I also have a Kershaw Blur.

One thing I want to mention about these two knives:
Seems to me that Heat has a way more reliable and durable assisted openning feature. I have not disassembled my Blur but I gather the spring in it is relatively thin and may fail after some time.
On the other hand, Heat has a spring bar in it. And I really mean a BAR. :) I can not imagine conditions under which it would fail and break.
And it is easy to convert the Heat to a manual and back to assisted as Keith mentioned.
