I pick up my little giant 25lb trip hammer on saturday anyone have a 1.5 horse motor they want to get rid of? and any info on setting it up would be appreciated.

I'm just kidding. I cant remember if it's on anvilfire or keenjunk . But one or the other has a book about the little giants that might be of help.

Hey Mark - When I first saw this post the first thing I though about was.......you sitting there shaking your head saying damn it!

Mark thanks for the info on the book and if you are really interested in a hammer if you want to travel to montana i know where there are several in varying states of operational readiness. I know exactly how you feel i have been looking for one for about 5 months and all of a sudden they just started appearing i was to the point of wanting to order the plans from appalachian blacksmiths.

I'm afraid that if I were to go to Montana , I'd never go back home :) I'm going to have to wait until I settle on a permanent residence. I've got stuff crammed into my shop so high that it's scary to walk through it. One day.

Just do like i did tell the wife and kids they have 5 days to get all that useless stuff out of my knife shop(garage) stuff like bikes garden hoses patio furniture etc. that ended up in me building here a storage shed but it worked.

Hey Tacmedic45 (is that what people call you?), you'll love that hammer! I have a 100 pounder, which I'll take to my grave (since I'll still be able to make use of it where I'm probably going). On Anvilfire.com there's a video offered by Dave Manzer on tuning up a Little Giant, to make it hit correctly, they're very sensitive if out of tune. These things are bent on self-distruction, so you need to be careful with the critters. Build a guard around the moving parts if you can (I didn't, except I did build a guard in front of the huge spring), and maybe install a brake, which I did. Manzers tape shows this. I think his company name is the same a Chuck Burrows company name of wild rose, but Dave is in Canada. Check it out, it's worth the money!

tacmedic45, I also have a 25# Little Giant in my shop (garage). It took me several months before I got it into working order, but now it works pretty well. One problem that I had with it was that it wanted to walk all over the garage when I was trying to use it. I ended up renting a hammer drill and drilling 4 holes in the floor to mount the power hammer. I drilled down past the concrete and used long concrete anchors to secure everything. I placed a piece of an old ping-pong table under it to help protect the floor from the shock. Here is a picture:

I was out at Wade Colters the other day and he has a guard kinda like that on his i will get some photos of his setup and post them he has one of the nicest refurbished hammers i have ever seen.

Contact Sid Suedmeier at 402-873-6603. I think he owns whats left of the Little Giant Co. He has tons of parts and information on these hammers. If you provide him with the Ser. # he can tell you when it was maufactured and who it was purchased by originally.

Don, Wade had gave me Sid's contact info and i had lost it thank you. Oh yeah and after takeing your shop tour all I can say is you Suck!!!!!!!!! I am still useing the one car garage. I did come up with a plan though we have this covered barbecue area behind the house with a brick grill and chimney if I tear that down and pour a slab and erect a steel building. I mentioned that to the wife about six months ago. When i am allowed to think for myself again i might mention it to her one more time. :)

By the way Tacmedic44, before you run out and buy your motor, check around to see what RPM should be used on a 25 pounder. I'm sure it's 1750, but then maybe it should be reduced down another step from there, I just don't know on the 25'ers. My 100 has a 3HP 3 phase on it, 1200 RPM, and by using the right pullys I get the shaft speed of about 275, which is what they suggest for it at full stomp(for the 100 pounder that is). Youre going to love that hammer. I also have a air hammer, but I keep going back to the Little Giant, and will sell off the Blu shortly as it just doesn't get any use. BTW, I'm looking for a 25 pounder (little Giant only) myself, so if anyone knows of one in the Texas area, let me know. I used to have one but traded it off for a old one-lunger engine. Now I wake up every morning and start kicking myself until bedtime.
