I was checking out a 3M Power Visor in the Woodcraft catalog and was wondering if any one had any experiance with one.It is self containd and has a built in fan ,filter and rechargable battery. It looks like a pretty slick unit. For the last twelve years I have used a Wilton Square Wheel grinder to rough out my bone and ivory carvings.I have a dust collector and wear a good mask but I am always looking for some thing to make it easier.I know I will never be able to retire and I am always looking for ways to deal with the dust before it gets to me.A lot of the best knife makers seem to be dying young and ill bet a lot of you guys are thiking on the same lines.

That is the best price I have found.I have dropped a few hints and hope to get one under the Christmas tree. One of the best things I have done to catch my dust is to put a large trash can under my grinder with a four inch hose in the bottom of it(on the side).I have it connected to a Jet two bag dust collector. It sure makes clean up easier.

Chuck, you might want to double check the filtering capacity of the power visor. If it is the model I am remembering it is only good for dust a the nuisnace level. Also the bags on most dust collectors do no trap smaller particles. Micron bags are available for most models.

I'm with Andrew on this one. If it doesn't have a HEPA filter you don't want it. A nuisance filter will not protect your lungs. It's the small particles you can't see that get you. Check out the 3M airmate helmet. A good helmet will run you around $500-$600. I figure my lungs are worth it.
