PowerLock disassembly

I recently purchased a PowerLock S60. I was charmed by boasts of user disassembly and component customization. I’ve been using a Leatherman on a daily basis, but have been unimpressed with the inability to disassemble and clean the tool. I work in conditions where my tools get wet every day. The ability to take apart, clean, and re-oil my folding knives and tools has been crucial in keeping them in good condition. I’ve recently taken apart my PowerLock for cleaning, and I cannot figure out how to get the folding tools back onto the hex posts. Could someone please give a poor soul some advice on what should be a relatively simple process? Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Trevor

Now, lets see if we can solve your problem.

When assembling the powerlock it is very important that you place the tools in the right position, otherwise the pliers head will hit the tools, which will make it so you can't close the Powerlock. In order to avoid this you must place the longer tools (knife, scissors, file and saw) in the outer most position.

The way mine is set up is as follows (with plier head pointing up and measurement scale facing you) Left side: ( Knife, medium flat screwdriver, 1/4 driver and scissors). Right side: (Saw, can opener, phillips head srew driver, large flat screwdriver, awl and file).

Assembly is real simple, just push the pin in leaving a gap just large enough to slip a tool over. Than slide the tools over the pin in the proper order. After you put all the tools in place, put a little Lock-tite on the screw and tighten it up.

I hope this wasn't too confusing, if you have any other questions just ask.;)

I have a TiNi Powerlock that I just disassembled. I placed everything back the way they were. I wasn't so sure where the two washers (on the scissor side) went. I noticed now that the pliers scrape against the side of the scissors when I open/close and is taking off the TiNi gold coating on the pliers. ANyone know where the two washers are supposed to go? Or is it normal for the pliers to scrape against the scissors?
