So i was using my pliers trying to get ahold of a vine that had grown around a barb-wire fence at work today when the plier snapped at the part where it goes around the pivot point, where the jaws say SOG going around. Just snapped clean. Will get pics up soon, dad has my camera, anyone dealt with SOG's warranty people? I have no clue how this happened, I wasn't prying nor using very much force at all. Only other thing I used it for today was to twist some wire around a section of barb-wire to tie to the chain link fence...

Hi Daniel,

Was your powerlock rusty? That might be one the causes for the breakage.

Do send an email to the SOG warranty department. To the best of my knowledge SOG multitools are made in the US and they should offer you a replacement or repair it for you FOC. ;)

No, it was not rusty or in any form of disrepair. I just got it for my birthday in Novemeber. Going to email them now, website says to just send it in...

Their warranty department is very good and friendly. I'd recommend just giving them a call tomorrow so that you will know more details than what the website tells you.

I'm surprised to hear what happened. I've had my black powerlock for two to three years now and it's never had a problem other than getting really loose. I've had to tighten it up a bit a few times, but other than that there's never been a flaw.

+1 on that.

I have had my powerlock for around a year now. We had some serious jungle training - through all the sweat and water some dots of rust have appeared. However the powerlock still works great for me!

Let us know what SOG says...

I have heard stories but it can severely damage the plierheads. I would only recommend it if it was an emergency situation.

thanks for the reply Chris@SOG.
Hey! maybe it's 'bout time the SOG Knives think tank at the plant come up with a tactical lightweight solution soon?

From what I have seen, SOGs seem to hold up better than the Gerbers cutting razor wire. We were issued Gerbers and they broke on pretty regular basis, someof the guys had SOGs and I never saw one of them break. Neither was ideal for cutting the razor wire, but if you are cutting razor wire you are in probably in less than ideal circumstances.
