I've been hunting ebay for a powerlock for some time and there are ALOT of the v-cutter models lurking about over there, in fact, probably 15 v-cut powerlocks for every 1 scissors powerlock. Is the v-cutter that useless that noone wants one? or did SOG make too many and they are now ending up on ebay. I'm just speculating here. Any info Chris?

Also, Chris, any update as to when the powerlocks with the new features will be shipping, and will they have either all new parts or all old parts? Like, if I get one that has the piano locks will i also get the gear covers and new plier head, or could there be some powerlocks that have one new feature but still have some old features, like piano locks, but no gear covers and old plier head? Hope that makes sense.

I really want the new features but I need this thing soon.

I think the reason you are seeing more of the V-Cutter than the scissors is that we have been selling more with the V-Cutter. That would place more out in the market and therefor more for sale on the bay. At least that is my theory.

As for the new tool features (plier head, gear cover and piano locks). You might find some tools out in the next month or two with the new plier head. The gear covers and piano locks will be implemented at the same time.

I hope that makes sense to you.

Chris

Chris...I have been seeing new powerlocks at Lowes with the new plier head (larger, not as polished and a taper at the tip if I'm correct) but without the piano lock and the gear covers. It looks like some have gotten out with just the new plier head unless there's another plier head that I wasn't aware of.

Have you heard of this?

Yes, some of the new plier heads have been out in the wild with out the gear covers and piano locks. So the ones you saw at Lowe's are the new plier head.

The gear covers and piano locks are set to be implemented sometime in August.

Could the advantage be that the tools don't clump together when attempting to pull one out? That's the biggest problem I have with mine. I can never get only one tool out.

Oh, Chris, I asked this before but didn't get an answer...can an older tool be upgraded to the newer features? I'm assuming its possible to get the new plier head and change it out, but it looks like the gear covers are riveted and therefore couldn't be put on an older tool and I can imagine the same is true of the piano locks. Is this correct?

thanks alot.

The advantage of the PianoLocks is that they will allow the tools to be opened individually and less clumping is correct. Also, since each component has a separate lock bar you can open a second tool with out unlocking the other one.

As for upgrading your current tool. The only thing you will be able to change is the plier head. The gear covers and PianoLocks are riveted in the handles and can not be changed with out having to drill them out and rivet them again.

Correct the knife blade from the PowerAssist will only work in that model. They have completely different handles.
