I just purchased a powerlock on Ebay. Ok 4 of them to be honest. I have not recieved them yet. They described as not having the scissors. Is this an older model or a variant? All of the info I have found indicates scissors on all powerlocks. I am now a bit worried as these are suposed to be new 1st quality. If it is just a old style that is cool as the scissors are not that important to me. Any ideas.
Thanks

Hi Guys,

We do make models of our tools that we do not advertise. In this case, we have a model of the Black EOD PowerLock which only sold directly to the US Military through GSA channels (among others) that come without the scissors and 1/4" drive. Yes, the link referenced above will give more information. If there is more that I can offer, please let me know.

Ron and Mark,
Thanks for the info. I will let you guys know if they are EOD models when they arrive. I'm not to worried about them being "hot" The seller has many Geber and Leatherman tools for sale as well, listed dutch in case size quanities. Good stuff hits the surplus market all the time. I read an article awhile back about a guy who buys stuff from the Army and then sells it back to them. One base sends it out to auction while another is still ordering it crazy! I now have 5 SOG tools coming. I had already ordered a power plier when I saw these at a price I could not pass up. Now I just need to get that Flash I asked about a few weeks ago. Hoping santa brings it.

Ron thanks for taking the time to converse via email with me a few weeks ago. While I did not order any seconds I am still very interested in them. I keep checking the site to see if they have been updated to include the Flash.

The "Hot" EOD PowerLocks we were talking about in the prior thread were selling on eBay for $20-25. When MSRP is about $85 on that model, it doesn't take anyone past a third grade education to can see that this is extremely "Hot" merchandise. At those prices, we're talking about them being way below wholesale price in huge, huge margins!

While I do not discount that there is the possiblity that these tools on Ebay are hot or stolen. One must accept that they may just as well be legally purchased surplus. Our goverment is not known for being savy in both the purchasing and the reselling of merchandise. We all remeber the $600 hammer. http://www.govliquidation.com/pastbidresults will show you what I mean. Unfortunatly you can't search the closed auction but poke around a little and look at the acquistion value compared to the sales price. My father equipped a machine shop from such auctions. He bought a lathe, milling machine and metal cutting bandsaw for $700. About $10,000 worth of tools on the used market. We had to take six pallets of worthless crap home with us too that day as it was all one lot. Now that they have moved to internet auctions the chance of items selling for pennies is far greater in some cases. Large or single lot items do well under this format, mixed lots may fare poorly if not individualy manifested. Margins, new merchandise etc. don't mean much in the auction market. The seller must describe well and promote well, the buyer hopes to find poorly described under promoted auctions and thus "luck up".

As for the sales price on ebay, it is an open auction if they only reach $25 then that is what the market is willing to pay. I had no idea about the "hot goverment models" I doubt many people on Ebay do. I thought I had gotten lucky.

Thanks

My tools arrived today and I thought you might be interested in having some more info on them. They are not not the EOD model they have the normal small crimper. This is opposed to the larger more pronounced crimper in the EOD photos on the SOG web page. They came in the white SOG box with the white insert and a color brochure of the SOG product line. the box was marked with a barcode and the number 5110014305043. In addtion to not having the scissors and 1/4 drive they have the plain blade and a sheeps foot blade instead of a combo blade. A awl, philips, can opener, bottle opener and screwdriver are also installed. Quality is top notch and I already like the powerlock more than my powerpliar. I am ordering the "missing tools" from SOG next paycheck. Of course I am now very curious as to where they came from as they are not EOD models. Guess I'll never know?. I am happy to have them and plan on giving several away as gifts.

Hi Patrick,

I just checked and we sell several models to the military. The model PowerLock you have described is a Military model (non-civilian), sold only through military only channels.
