My brother(heavyjets) and I ran across a powermatic bandsaw. A monster of a machine..we thought it just needed a blade but when we try to cut metal with it. The rubber insert in the top wheel jumps off..anybody ever heard of such a thing? If so how can it be fixed? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Sounds like you need new tires on your bandsaw wheels, Swede. On most of the older saws, those tires were all glued on. You may want to get some rubber cement and try to glue it back on, or get some of the new polyurethane belts that don't require gluing. Here's a great site with lots of excellent products for bandsaws:

Hope this helps.

Are you sure it is a metal cutting machine?

You also need to get the very best bimetal blades from Lenox or DoAll.

If it is a Powermatic Model 143 it is a combination wood/metal. It should have a transmission on the side with a high and low speed and a series of step down pulleys. The older machines where painted green and the newer ones are gold. The 143 is no longer made, I think Jet bought out Powermatic a few years ago. They are an excellent machine.

The tag says model no: 043, maybe a misprint? Who knows..the person we got it from said they cut metal on it all the time..im sure it just needs a little tlc. At least i hope so.
