Powertool advice needed

unless your getting a foredom tool,, black and decker will make a decent dremel, wanna know why? CHEAPER, think about it this way, the dremel is a simple movement, a rotation

as for jigsaw, get one you trust like a milwaukee or makita,,, ryobis good too!!!

I had a Dremel for several years, until I dropped it and it broke (not an indication of poor product) I now have the B&D, and find it much more ergonomic, has more amps and torque, and I like the fact I can cut it off and on without adjusting the speed setting, as I couldn't do that with the dremel.

My B & D "Wizzard" lasted less than 2 years (stripped gears). I replaced it with a top of the line Sears. I had a Dremel years ago and it served me well for a long time. B & D is not what it used to be.

RotoZip is another good choice in the 'Dremel' type tool category. I had a variable speed Dremel a few years back and the speed control function went away after very little use. Haven't had any probs with the RotoZip thus far after about two years despite far more rigorous usage. They're available at any Home Depot.

As for jigsaws, I wholly agree with armlessbandit. Unless you're going to be using one for only the crudest of purposes, you'll quickly come to appreciate the huge increase in quality, durability, controllability and precision that comes with stepping up to a $150 Bosch jigsaw. You can get by reasonably well with the "economy" version of a drill or palm sander, but a cheap jigsaw can do more harm than good to your woodworking project. It may take you a few more months of saving your pennies to be able to afford the Bosch, but I can just about guarantee that when all is said and done you'll have a really big smile on your face. :D

Hi Guys thanks for the advice.

Armless,

Don't know what a foredom tool is...don't know if it is cheaper than B&D.
Also, don't know any jigsaw brands, so I don't have trust in any of them.

Medic,

That's what I figured. I was looking at the B&D and Dremel tool side by side. The advantages of Dremel was cordless. The B&D seemed to have an advantage on everything else.

Neanderthal,

What's a B&D Wizzard? I tend to think that B&D is on the cheap and cheesy side as well.

Bronco,

Rotozip sounds good. I am going to check it out. Sounds like a pro level power jigsaw makes more sense, got to look into that as well.

Sundsvall : The "Wizzard" was simply a B&D dremel type tool. BTW, I had a fordham powered dental lab tool years ago. I used it daily for over thirty years, and it was still running fine when I retired.

a foredom tool is used for really precise work

we have a lot of jigsaws

milwaukee ryobi is allright

and makitaa, thats my favourite

Thanks guys. I think the options that I listed are all lemons.

Got to rethink the purchases.

One thing you need to consider about the cordless is, it isn't even close to the kind of power and speed that you get with the corded version. If you are willing to give up those features, then the cordless should be OK. I have recently noticed that the Dremel has upped it's speed to 35K rpm, I guess to get an edge-up on the B&D. If I was going to get another Dremel to replace my B&D, I would get the one with the digital speed control.
