Does anyone know a ballpark shipment month for the second run of the PPT model? I also wonder if they'll tweak the design at all like they did on the Gayle Bradley.

What "tweak" are you talking about? I don't recall any threads or discussion on the PPT needing anythign changed.

I don't think there has to be a discussion here for them to change something . But anyway, some people think the handle is too heavy and the steel backspacer contributes to that.
Mainly I'd just like to know if we're weeks or months away from seeing these back in stock.

What did they change on the GB?

They drilled the liners on the second run of the GB. Gave it a more neutral balance. I own both generations and prefer the second. They also changed the jimping on the liner where your thumb contacts it to disengage the lock. Also, although this is unconfirmed, I think they increased the spring in the liner. I wouldn't be surprised if they do that with the PPT.

Honestly, I don't feel that it is required of this knife. The detent is strong enough as it is.

I think it would be a weight reduction thing if nothing else. The one I have is one heavy mother.

A stronger spring could help not only a weak detent but also insure that there's enough travel to allow the liner to move over as it wears. So vertical bladeplay doesn't develop.

To go back to the OP's question, anyone have an idea of timing on the next batch?

I've had 2 of these and neither one has a weak detent. As far as verticle play is concerned, these knives are being released about as flawlessly as a production knife can get. I have not read any posts where that was a concern since they were released. The wear on the liner will take a lifetime to travel. Whatever steel is used on that lockbar is very well made and pretty wear resistant from what I've seen. That thing is almost beefy enough to be considered a frame lock.

the detent is already strong enough.

True.

I saw two videos of the PPT on youtube where vertical play was mentioned. Concerning the GB, I read one report on Bladeforums and as I previously noted, the newer version has a stronger spring.

OK a dealer informed me that Spyderco is scheduled to ship PPTs beginning at the end of next week.
