PPT Scales

Has anyone removed the scales from the PPT, or had custom scales made for it? I can't stop thinking about a PPT with thinner scales to make it a little bit slimmer. Unfortunately, I don't know of any shops around me with a PPT to check out. Does the knife still function without scales, or are they integral for keeping the torx screws seated?

Any type of pictures would be supremely appreciated. For some reason this has me greatly intrigued!

I'll have to check mine again, but I seem to recall that you can take the scales off & it'll still work. Problem is, then the clip is kind of useless as there'll be a ton of room between it & the steel liners. I suppose you take the non-lock side scale off as the clip won't be effected by that & that'll make it thinner.

Honestly, I really like the scales on the PPT. They provide excellent grip W/O being too rough on clothes.

It sounds like a tempting idea, but I don’t think it’ll work with the scales off. The pins that go through the pivot and backspacer stick out from the liners a bit, so you’d have to grind them down or replace them. The screws might have to be shortened. Also, the holes in the liners aren’t countersunk, so the screw heads would sit proud.

My preference is usually for smooth scales, but I really like the PPT scales too. They’re textured, but they don’t have that coarse, sandpaper-like feel to them. There’s a pass-around going on for the PPT that you might be able to get in on so you can handle one.

Thanks for the photo, that's exactly what I was looking for. I wouldn't want to replace the scales due to texture, but due to how thick they appear to be. It seems like you could use thinner scales to make such a heavy duty knife print less and be better for pocket carry. From photos, the PPT looks like it has a very round and robust profile with the regular scales.
