Lately I've been trying to come up with a practical EDC package. I'm basically looking for the right combination of tools to allow for SD and utility value. My main consideration is that the selections be practical, versitile and reasonably priced. ($150.00 or less per item) I'd like to put together an EDC "package" that could be customized based on the activities for the day. You would have a stable selection of tools to choose from based upon the needs of the day instead of just carrying whatever tool you happened to buy that week. I feel that a practical EDC would have the following elements:

--2 Locking folders - Quality steel and excellent lockup. These folders should be capable in either a SD or utility role. (I'm thinking of a Military and a Chinook II as they should do just about everything.)

--1 Multitool - Mainly for the pliers. (Gerber - The pliers are easy to access)

--1 SAK or similiar - Good assortment of practical tools and it doesn't scare the sheeple. (Champion model - good assortment of tools.)

--1 Small fixed blade - A folder substitute with a versitile sheath. (A BM Resistor or a Ronin - Either would be great.)

--1 Medium fixed blade - For SD or utility. Likely to be worn IWB. (Spyderco Perrin - Good for utility or SD)

--1 Small SAK for the keychain

--1 key chain LED light (Inova light)

--1 impact device - A Stinger on the keychain or a koppo (Stinger - easier to conceal and fits on your keychain.)

--1 quality flashlight - (Possibly a Surefire E2D or an Inova LED.)

If you were putting together a group of tools for a customizable EDC, what would you select and why?

I won't go into the "why", but this is my EDC (not counting my pistol, watch, wallet, keys, etc...) :

Benchmade plain-edge 805.
Benchmade plain-edge 556 (or plain-edge BM 722).
SOG Deluxe Pocket PowerPlier.
SOG CrossCut.
Photon II (blue).

I was going to include handgun choice, but I'm still waiting for my CCW permit to be processed! When I do eventually get it, I'll be going with a G17.

I like your choices, but I prefer a Leatherman Squirt instead the small SAK. A little bit bigger, but you get scissors and a phillips screwdriver.

I may suggest the Streamlight Twin-Task: very well made, good price, and you have the leds when you do not need too much light.

I like this tread :)

Sorry for my english :o

I really hate to be weighed down with alot of stuff, so I keep it light:

One-hand folder (Benchmade 556, 551, or 722, or Spyderco G-10 Police).

Leatherman Squirt P4

And if I plan to do some odd jobs around the house that day, I add either my Gerber Pro-Scout Multi-Pliers or my Leatherman Crunch.

Good luck,
Allen.

Mine is a Benchmade 806D2, Spyderco Cricket, Letherman Squirt P4. The BM is a great all-around utility/self-defense knife. The Cricket is for opening blister-packs and for sheeple. the Squirt is all I need for SAK-type chores.

To me a practical EDC is:

1. ONE knife :p (For me a Buck 303T)
2. Lighter (a cheap Bic one)
3. Keychain LED light (Arc AAA)
4. Keychain Mulit-tool (I don't carry one, but if I did it would be a Squirt)
