Practicality vs preference

Yesterday, I came across a stag handled folder which I thought was quite nice. On a nearby shelf were a range of SAKs. Among the SAKs was one which seems to have over 26 functions.

I examined the SAK and found it to be quite a neat package. I have a soft spot for SAKs, afterall my first good knife was a SAK.

I weigh the pros and cons of getting the stag handled folder or the SAK. Both carried the same price tag.

The question which finally helped me to make up my mind was: if I am out there in the wild, or somewhere away from the beaten track, which one would be more useful?

The SAK is now in my drawer. Nowadays, some SAKs have so many features, they are built almost the size of a little shoe.
But I find them quite fascinating.

At the end of the day, it's always the practical side of things that prevail. Yesterday was one such instance.

It has been said that more folk's have solved more problems and
gotten out of more situations with a SAK than all the others on the
market today. If you remeber the history of the SAK and it's reason
for being invented I think you'll find that the SAK will always win
a praticality debate.

If you ignore the stag on the handle ( handle materials don't make a knife
more useful just prettier) then your question will answer itself.

I love SAKs. Generally my favorite is the 111mm series with the locking blade but I really like them all. You can get a stag handled SwissChamp from www.swiss-knife.com if you so desire. I have ordered from them and the goods get here just fine by registered mail in 10 days or less for a $10 shipping charge. They have some very useful models that are not available in the USofA righ now.
