Hi folks I have been thinking daggers again hoping that this is my year. so after I got a few fighters done for my up coming shows I thought I would warm up on this little dagger. so I let it all hang out went with no fear trying things I have never done before there was a few rough spots that I had to overcome and I felt my recovery was ok at the end of it I am happy so happy that I named the Dagger Rapunzel. it is angel hair damascus that flows from her tower. You know the story Repunzel Repunzel tie your Dagger to your hair and let it down so that i can check it out. I think thats how the story goes . anyway let me know what you think Rdagger2.jpgRdagger3.jpgRdagger4.jpgRdagger5.jpg

Wow. A lot of detail on that one. Looks like you put a lot of work into it, and it shows. I really like the damascus pattern, and the name Rapunzel fits. I also like what you did in the handle between the guard and the ivory. Don't know if I have seen anything exactly like that before.

Where is the balance point? I would like to hold this one in my hand to get a better sense of it.

Anyway . . . bottom line is . . . I like it!

I love the damascus and the overall theme of the knife carried through different design elements.

Proportion is one of the hardest things to judge in pics - and these pics won't keep Coop awake at night. :p In the one full shot of the knife, the guard looks a bit disproportionately big and the handle small - but that could just be (and likely is) a function of camera angle / perspective. Will this be with you in Little Rock?

Also, does a test dagger need to have a fluted handle? The majority I can recall do, but I don't know if it's an actual requirement or merely the traditional way of executing a quillion dagger.

Roger your eye is good the handle may be a bit small for a dagger but it fits in my hand ok the handle is 4-3/4" long blade is 9-1/4 but Repunzel hand small hand's.:) yes the test Dagger will need to be wire wrapped and fluted. this was more about getting a another Dagger under my belt before I make my test Dagger it is the 3rd dagger I have made and grinding the blade felt very good way more confidence then the last two. the handle would have been a bit longer but that was what I had for ivory it is nice ivory just not very big thats why I have all that stuff above it to add some length. it may be at Little rock if it makes it through Texas.

Dave, I really like what you have done here. Is that the Ivory you picked up last year at San Antonio? I will be patiently wait to see what you come up with on the MS Dagger:D

Thanks for sharing

My first thought Dave is like Roger. The guard seems disproportionate to the handle and the blade but of course one would have to handle the knife to know for sure.

Thanks Folks Bruce This ivory is the last bit of a tusk I got from AKS but I have started a project with the other stuff. Bill it dose look like river of fire so I will tell you what it is. It's
a very fine feather pattern that I did the serpent treatment to. but it dose look a lot like angel hair. Murray I see what you mean I almost rolled the guard forward that would have really changed it a lot but when I put it together I liked how it looked straight . the next one will not be a straight guard. I think I will do one more Practice dagger.

your knife kicks ass. I would love to own it and it would be a centerpiece. Might be the first for you, but by no means lacking in any way- to my eye at least.
I love me a knice dagger.

Thanks Lorien I bet it would fit your Hobbit hand perfectly

I should've stayed in school and got a good paying job, then we'd both know for sure...
