I am trying to find a cheaper way to practice sharpening. Right now I have a few spyderco's but they are already sharp and I don't want to keep sharpening them just for practice. Anyone know of a cheaper way to practice on metals around the s30v, s45vn hardness? Love to get my hands on a couple of well used knives or maybe some off brands that don't fetch a price tag over $75.

Thanks

You could go to WalMart or somewhere and buy a couple of Buck knives or something else.

yea I'd check bladehq. You can filter for steels, price, and whatever else you want. If they don't have it in stock doesn't mean someone else wont.

If you can't find any used bargains, I'd get a couple inexpensive knives in D2. It sharpens sort of like s30v and the like. Try to find models with tall primary grinds that are relatively thin behind the edge so they have plenty of sharpening life.

Not many "higher" end steel options in that price range. I've also been looking for budget knives to practice on. A good one to check out is the Spyderco Z-cut kitchen knife in CTS-BD1N steel, only $25 online. Not a folding knife but inexpensive in a decent steel.
