Just really excited right now as today I completed an order with Medford Knife & Tool for my first custom "to me" knife. I know they are kind of turning into a production knife maker, but I was extremely lucky to be able to include some features that are not part of the standard menu.

I have to say that working with Greg over at Medford Knives is a really great experience. You send the guy an email and think he might get back to you in a day or two, and 5 minutes later he is calling you to talk about any questions you might have or even just to shoot the shit about the knife you are interested in. Very rare type of experience for a place that has so much attention and is cranking out a lot of knives to call every customer on the spot and walk them through any questions.

I've been watching his daily you tube videos and just enjoying seeing the guy get so cranked up about knives every day. Now the hard part starts. I have never waited for more than a few weeks for anything I have ever ordered. I guess I have been lucky or maybe I just purposely steered clear of dealing with long lead time types of operations. I am the type of guy who will spend 3 days looking for a shop within 100 miles of me where I can go in and actually touch what I want to buy and take it home with me. I go crazy just waiting 5 days for an instock item to ship to me:eek:

Oh well, hopefully I can focus on something else for a while and be surprised some months from now...

congrats, that's a pretty cool knife, too bad you didnt win the one they gave away on their facebook page

I bought two of Greg's ready to order knives and they are awesome. He actually called me to see what color of wrap I wanted. Great guy to deal with and he makes some beautiful blades... I love that Praetorian. Wish I could afford to order one..

Well all I can say is congratulations............but you know at some point this thread needs pics rite?

Oh and I'd ask a mod to move this to custom and handmade knives..

Kind of a funny story there. I first spoke with Greg last Sunday and one of the few custom requests I had was for the thin line Praetorian with full Ti sides as I want to actually carry this knife. He told me that he was unable to commit to a full Ti version of the thin line, but it may be an option in the future. I was a little bummed, but now I know why he couldn't let me order that option since he was about to announce a custom one off giveaway...

How long did he say it would take? Awesome knife been thinking about getting one

I purposely did not ask for 2 reasons.

1. If I was told a ridiculous amount of time, it might affect my decision to follow through with the order and I would probably end up regretting that.

2. If they gave me a lead time, it would be based on prediction and nothing else. One of the features I am asking for on my knife will require hand work that is outside of their normal set-up so there is no telling when they will be able to make that component...

When you order from them, you get an email with this standard response "Current Lead Time is 16-24 weeks is the current lead time and subject to change, but every attempt will be made to deliver as soon as possible without compromising quality."

I wasn't sure if it qualified as a custom due to the current state of Medford, but it is true that I will have some rare custom features. Also, I am afraid it will be a long time before any pictures will be available:p

congrats, i have visited Greg's shop in AZ, Greg is a awesome guy who makes a awesome knife. One day i will be able to pull the trigger

I'd never seen any of his knives before this thread (I'm still not all that well versed in production knives, much less custom), but I have to say that is really impressive. Congratulations on ordering and please do post pictures and information of this beast in action when you get it.
