I just got a new Medford Praetorian Genesis T. The thing is awesome. However , when I shake it , I can hear a faint rattle (I think near the pivot but I’m not positive). Is this normal? Would this just be the ball bearings moving around? Or is there a problem somewhere on the knife? Everything else is perfect.

I wouldn't say a rattle Is normal in any folding knife it means that there's a loosened part that shouldnt be or a piece of material broke and it shakes about try contacting the seller before it gets too used

I was hoping it was commonplace for Medfords for some reason. But I guess I’ll be contacting the dealer. Thanks.

A rattle can be normal in some folders, like crk sebenzas with the lanyard pin rattling and other folders that have internal floating pins. Never had a praetorian so can't help in this case.

If memory serves, if you disassemble a Medford Knife he will disown you in terms of warranty, I heard it somewhere so don't quote me, if you can't see what can he causing the acoustics then best to contact them

Just messaged Medford. We’ll see what they say.

Squeeze the clip against the frame when you shake it. Check the frame and lbs screws.
Actually , I removed the clip. I’m not a fan of them. I’ve been trying to listen where exactly the rattle is coming from. As far as I can tell , it seems to be coming from the pivot area. All the screws are tight. It’s a shame because this knife is gorgeous.

Did both of the hex nuts that the clip screws go into come out when you took the clip off?

Funny you say that. I’m sitting here now investigating the possibility of me removing the clip could have something to do with the noise. And sure enough, that’s what it is. User error. Although I only have one hex nut.

Since I can’t seem to make the knife “quiet” with no clip , I decided this knife is not for me. Off to the exchange it goes.

Ball bearings are not supposed to make rattling noise. Floating stop pin on some knives (like hinderer) could sometimes be loose enough to make rattling noise.

I think it was just a hex nut in the screw hole from when I removed the clip. Chuck_Nunface was helpful. Thanks Chuck.

The knife is just too beautiful and well-built to sell. I’m keeping it.

I saw the forsale ad, reminds me of the time I threatened my dog I'd take her to the pound for shitting on my white carpet and tearing up my hats 😂
Hahaha that’s the exact mentality I had when I was boxing her up : “If you don’t want to abide by my rules then you can’t live under my roof”. But cooler heads prevailed.
