Praise and a question.

First the praise.
A friend acquired a ZT 0550 on the trade exchange. He got an extremely good deal because the ZT had horrible blade play. It was so bad that when it was opened, you could shake it and it just bounced all over the place.
He emailed KAI and asked for a quote for repair.
He was told to fill out a warranty form and mail it in, which he did.
Today in the mail was a brand new ZT 0550 2nd gen. Replaced free of charge even though he was up front about not being the original owner.

Now for my question.
Is the gen1 out of production, and if so does anyone see the value going up for the people who own them?

Not to hijack - but what are the main gen differences? I see the pocket clip style has changed? Any internals or materials change?
 
Sounds like your friend got a sweet deal. I haven't had any issues with any of my ZT's . But from what I have heard (many times) their customer service is top notch. So if I ever did have an issue I am comforted by knowing that they take care of their customers.

I like ZT very much.

The lockbar cutout. I believe it's on the inside versus being on the outside in the Gen 1's. I could be wrong though.

He got a heck of a good deal.
He traded less than $100 worth of knives for the 0550, and wound up with a brand new gen. 2
