I have one of the old Enduras... AUS-8 blade, had a plastic integral clip that busted off (customer service tapped the plastic for a metal clip, which worked great). One of my first real folding knives. Anyway, I think I paid $20, maybe $25 for it because I got it from a friend who was also a knife dealer at the time. Anyway, I've been moving this week and that is the knife I consider my "beater" because it's tough and it's cheap. The knife is a mess and we haven't even really started the real move yet, but the edge is sharp as ever, I pulled some industrial staples out of a wood cabinet with it, it's been opening boxes and trimming shelf liners... the whole 9 yards. I cut some vines that were creeping into the siding with it.
The best part about it is the lock! How can I possibly get excited about a lockback knife? I really can't, but what excites me is that this is probably the only knife I own that I can hand to my wife closed, and have her hand it back to me when she's finished with it closed! Usually she struggles with the things, looks at them like she just killed our dog with the knife, then hands it back to me open like it's about to explode. I love the fact that she can actually work this knife!
