Praise for the Sharpmaker instructional video

As a graduate student, I have to make hard choices regarding how I spend my knife budget. As a Christmas gift to myself, I finally bought a new Sharpmaker and am very pleased (and impressed).

However, I wanted to praise the instructional video (well, DVD) that accompanies the Sharpmaker. I have a background in instructional design and have worked with textbook companies and others to create educational products like Web sites, interactive games, etc., and I want to compliment Spyderco and Sal Glesser on a VERY professionally done (and educationally sound) instructional video. I've seen "for-learning" videos with bigger production budgets done 1/2 as well!

As a knife knut, I LOVE my new Sharpmaker. As a PhD student in educational psychology, I applaud Spyderco for a job well done on their instructional video!!

I love that video! I've watched more times than what is probably healthy, and still learn something new with each view.(Whoa I made a rhyme:D)

I enjoy the campy infomercial feeling it has.

The day I got my Sharpmaker, I was frying up some sweet and sour chicken and rice and sat down to dinner while watching the video; both were very well made (the video and the food). I don't know why I remember that so well but I do. Is that bad?

Not at all! The best learning *is* entertainment - witness all the people who became voracious readers because of a favorite sci-fi (or whatever genre) as a child!

I bought a Sharpmaker a year ago and then bought the diamond rods. The video wasn't out in DVD even though I called and asked. Is there a way I can get the DVD or download it somewhere? Thanks!

The video is 2.5 Gb. I doubt that is going to happen anytime soon.

Although I do agree with you. It's made me a even bigger fan of Sal's products.

They could compress it, i have compressed DVD's down to 250mb to watch on my pda, its still very good quality at this size

I think the usefulness of the video comes from seeing the details. A highly compressed video might be too blurry to see all the details.

The DVD only costs $5 online anyway, so I doubt that it's going to be a high priority for Sal to make it downloadable.

The only thing I'd like, is to have Sal's autograph on the DVD. :)
