Recently acquired a new Tim Wegner full sized clipit. One can't help but be impressed by the sturdy feel and solid lockup. Blade heft is quite nice, and the ATS-34 holds a razor sharp edge.

I got to take it out for a spin today. First time I've really put it to task. I brought home seven rainbow trout (caught more actually, but seven is the creel limit where I live), and I used the Wegner to clean them since no fileting was involved. It made quick work of the fish.

After I was done, I just sprayed the knife off with the hose, brought it in to dry, and then lubed it up with some Tuff-Glide. Good as new. Nice knife, Tim and Sal. Keep the great designs coming.

I may have to try the Catcherman for a filet knife. What do you Forumites have to say about this model?

Nice mess of trout.
The knife is fine too, of course.

Guyon,

We are certainly on the same page.
I'm waiting on my Wegner as we speak.(today?)
Also am interested in the Catcherman as I fish alot. I'm curious as to how flexible the blade might be. Anyone know???

Regards.........

Tex,

Here's the description on one internet dealers' site:

"C-17PSBK Catcherman, folding filet knife with Aus-8 stainless steel blade, semi-stiff and thinned out for flexibility. 75% plain, 25% serrated. Zytel handle with pocket clip and lanyard hole. 5 7/8" closed, 4 3/4" blade."

"Thinned out for flexibility" and "semi-stiff" make it sound like a regular filet knife. This knife is also one instance where the combo serrations are in the right place--near the handle where the blade is thickest and where applied force is the strongest. I would think these serrations would be great for cutting through bone when cleaning fish.

I just did a search for "Catcherman". A lot of people like this knife. A couple did mention that that blade is slightly thicker than fixed blade filet knives.

Hi Guyon. Nice stuff & pic. Makes me hungry. Gail wants to know how you cooked 'em?

Hey Sal,

Just caught your post. I made trout almondine with the four biggest fish (baked them with butter, lemon, a little lime, and crushed almonds). Fried up the little ones. Throw in a salad and some rolls, and you've got some good eatin'.

You guys would love the Catcherman. I've got an extra one that I would trade for a bunch of those trout. They just look too good.
