Prayers from Reno,

Smoke and prayers for you, brother!
May you both heal well in a good and gentle manner.

I hope they got everything worked out with no chronic injuries. Our border collie and doberman usually get into it about once a year. It can be pretty scary to break up because the dobie could probably kill the other if she wanted but it's the border collie that keeps on the attack.

Usually it involves food or personal space so I find it helps to keep them from being to cramped together and let them get plenty of exercise. It can take a few days to blow over. Also, they can sense your mood so it helps to note when they're about to snap and diffuse the situation by distracting them.

During one of our fights the dobie accidentally got my finger and tore it down both sides without even trying to do harm. I still have scars 9 years later.

Wow, that is serious stuff. I never have any trouble with my dog's fortunately, but yeah, I feel for you man, I hope you and your dog's heal up good. Don't let that bite get infected or it could be the beginning of a painful end by necrotizing flesh, edema, and other medical phenomena. Are all your dogs pitbulls? Because, I don't mean to offend you, but I got bit by a pitbull once, (who just happened to be my home slice dog too, and still is, if he did not die of this disease that swept the kennels later on), and when the police investigated, the first thing the officer said was, 'Pitbull got you, didn't it?' or something to that effect. Pitbulls are built and bred to fight, and even the nicest pitbulls can turn. Don't get me wrong man, I love pitbulls, they are, when raised correctly, the sweetest, most affectionate dogs around, and even when raised incorrectly, they can still turn out good. I'm just saying, they are rescues, so they probably have scars in the mind as well on the body. Just be cautious, for your sake, because they unfortunately, are probably not done with their feud, and let me tell you something you probably already know, those dogs can kill when they are serious. The pitbull that got me, Brock was his name, he was like a shark on me, he drew blood, and at that moment, he probably loved the taste. The only reason I still have a hand and not a mangled piece of scar tissue and bones was I had the good sense, and the adrenaline, to realize I was being bitten, and pry his jaws open. I was amazed I did that by the by, I probably could have killed that dog with that strength, just kept pulling until snap, there goes the tendons in the jaws...ugh, I hate to think of human potential to kill. But, anyway, be cautious, my friend, your life is, unequally, more important than your dogs lives combined, and don't forget it if they start up again. Tell me if I offended you in any way, and I will hastily apologize, for I did not mean it in any circumstance. But, yeah, pitbull plus pitbull equals, at the very least, small feuds often. Maybe you should consider separating them if they don't stop, for the sake of the dogs, as well as your safety. Even a guy as muscular as you can easily become the victim if a powerfully built dog decides to take the offensive. Anyway...I'm sorry this happened to you man, and once again, I hope this all resolves and never happens again. Thanks for reading. Peace.

Thanks everyone - yes usually i can feel it ion the air they are all 3 rescues and been abused so the have kinda like PTSD -- this was sudden and vicious i was in the kitchen and ran across the living room and kind of tackled the one off of the other kinda rolling with him -- they will work it out i hope they usually dont hold a grudge to long -- they are just my babies and i get so sacred for them - - dont worry David i know you always mean well -- i actually got an award for saving a young man from a dog but it was a Siberian husky that went nuts - but i tell ya when he had my hand in his mouth it didn't really think about what kind of dog he was -- thank you all so much

Thanks for understanding man, you're real cool. Anyway, yeah, don't mention it, we're all here, right, so why should you not rely on us occasionally for some moral support, just like I would rely on you to save me from a zombie apocalypse, what with your superior musculature, experience, skill sets, and arsenal of weaponry? Although, I think I would be up to cracking a few zombie heads together just for the heck of it, 'cause I know...Kar-a-TE...as a white belt about to test for the next belt! Anyway, yeah, I despise making enemies because of my paranoia, so I am almost always out there to make friends and generally be a morally righteous guy, you know what I mean? By the way, I think it is incredibly decent of you to take in dogs that have such a bad reputation, and mental scarring on top of that. You should get like a Nobel Good Guy prize to go along with the rabid Siberian husky attack award. A LOT of people, who knows, I might even be one of them, would be frozen if they saw an altercation come up between two dogs, or even two people. Some would just want to see the outcome...like most of the people at my high school. But not many would take the initiative and say to themselves, 'someone's in trouble, I must help!' and actually go and help. That takes guts, man, serious, rocked-in-the-face-amazing guts, and without that, where would Superman and all our local heroes be? Okay, I'll shut up now. And if I find a camera, people, I will keep you all posted with PICTURES of my possible lignum vitae project, so be excited, I think it might turn out great! Oh, and Siberian Huskies are notoriously territorial, just as a plausible reason for why it might have attacked that man. Get up in their grill and they will SNAP like a twig underfoot, no lies here. I mean, they are beautiful dogs, but they aren't known to be lovable little furballs. Oh, and, I don't mean to take away from the tragic nature of your situation Eric, but, just to the side, I thought I would ask...who likes wolves? I think wolves are given a really bad name. I mean, they have to kill, and that's what they do. Its not like they think and plan things out, they're probably instinct driven like most creature, and hunt for food present and future. They are not known to make animals suffer, they look really cool, they howl at the moon (no innuendo meant), they are incredibly smart, and they don't really try us humans in unreasonable ways. In fact, I bet deer are more damaging to the environment and human kind than wolves are now. Deers are OM NOM NOM'ing on crops all over the place, and eating our carefully grown grass and flowers, curse them! They should be abominated, but no, people goes soft whenever they see a cute, doe eyed...doe, and say, 'no, don't kill it, if you do, you're evil!' Well, I'm perfectly okay with being evil if I could single handedly manage the deer population and revive the timber wolves, Eurasian wolves, and other endangered species, come to think of it. Yeah, I'm going on and on, can it Dave. Thanks for listening everyone, and see y'all later.

... - poor things are both nervous wrecks / so... am i -- ...

A common situation. How many of us are damaged or incomplete, yet trying to express compassion or help those we love? It makes the solution of the puzzle we find ourselves in very interesting.

Thank you all so much -- it really means a lot - they are OK and she is getting better healing on her forearm (and my arm and nose-- LOL) just have to re-socialize - hopefully it will work out -- thank you all - Eric

Sorry to hear about the fracas Eric, but glad to hear that you all are on the mend. With their unfortunate backgrounds, and with dogs being dogs and territorial, I guess they can get to the point where they let off some steam. Its a shame that Princess and you took a hit in the process. Good on you for rolling her up taking "alpha" charge. Good energies to you all.

Dogs are great! People who don't like them or don't have them are missing out. It's funny how much better a dog can make you feel. They love us for who we are and don't ask for much in return. Some people might think we're crazy for loving dogs as one of the family but that's what they are. Take care and best of luck!

I'm sorry to hear about it. That's a scary thing. I know that you will take care of the dogs; don't forget to take care of yourself. I'm sure your dogs' shots were all up to date, but make double sure since you got bit.

Thanks all -- we are working on it just re-socializing without another fight is the hard part; but sometimes it turns out easier than i think
