Well..........
The last couple of days has been trying, tiring and interesting......
The Susquehanna River literally exploded over it's banks Wednesday and Thursday due to the heavy rains Wednesday and thru the night.
The Town i spent my first 20 years growing up in is devastated.
The Town i lived in for almost 15 years is also all but swamped.
Major flooding and devastation for many couties in this area. Even the closest town to me was not spared.
Oddly enough, the college town just below the lake above me has been spared and suffered little damage.

....and here i was getting a little cranky from worrying about the 2 or 3 inches of water i had in my basement which i was hoping wouldnt swamp my keepsakes stored there. We didnt even get enough to turn the sump pump on. Living higher in elevation in the hills has its advantages i guess.
We are fine at the homestead here. Basement is drying as we speak.

I may go missing over the weekend to help friends and neighbors from my old neighborhoods.
Please say a prayer and send some smoke for those who've pretty much lost everything, who were just recovering from the 2006 flood, which was supposed to be the 50 year flood. It paled in comparison to this.

So sad. I lived through Agnes in '72 when PA got hammered. My friends up in PA tell me it's nearly as bad...

In the town of Owego it's far worse than Agnes ever got.
During Agnes it only flooded our basement.
In 2006 it it went 2-3 ft into the first floor. Neither time did downtown flood.
This is swamping the ground level, in some places up to the 2nd story.

As soon as the travel restriction is lifted and roads into town are opened again, I'm going to go see what i can do to help.
Right now they are telling everyone to stay put and stay away.....

That's devastating. Prayers for those impacted and blessings to any rescuers/helpers to stay safe - including Karda.

Been raining for weeks here.
Smoke sent for your loved ones, buddies and neighbors.

You take care and be safe buddy!

Reminds me of the flooding we had in Nashville just a couple years ago... we had 5 feet of water in our basement, but many lost their entire homes. It was a horrible disaster, but in the end it brought the entire city together as a community
I hope that your town pulls together and y'all make it out ok

Smoke and best wishes from the foggy coastal dunes. May the Dharma path help keep you as dry as possible :)

Too late to say, Stay dry! We've had roads washed out, but the sun is shining for two days now. I hope you get the same relief soon!

I grew up in Binghamton, and my mom & dad still live there. Luckily a flooded basement was the worst they've had to deal with this time. At least one friend has to look for a new job since her place of work was completely destroyed by flood damage. Another had to be airlifted to a hospital since he lost power and requires oxygen at home.

Hang in there, Karda! May you and yours make it through this one safe and sound.

The flooding Susquehanna is kicking our butts south of you in Pa. as well.

Dang, if I'd known that I'd have kept the package for you longer. It went out Tuesday. I hope you get it, but most importantly stay safe.

be safe my friend -- family down the road from me lost their son to the rising creek -- the rain finally slowed and he went in the back yard to look at the creek - dont know what happened but he got swept away - 12 years old - i am surer he was not the only person that got caught up in it - some sad days for many families in America

Smoke Prayers and Blessings to you and your wife and all the critters and all those affected everywhere

Eric

That is truly sad Eric... I cannot express enough my sincere wishes that there was a way to control natural disasters of every kind, or at least divert them so they expend themselves elsewhere. Death is a terrible thing for those left behind and the one or many that wished to stay longer. I am glad Karda and his family are safe, yet greatly saddened that his previous life is under siege thanks to raging water, as well as the present lives of thousands upon thousands of people, and not just in his area, all over the place. Most unfortunately, I believe that these storms are going to get ever so slowly, but steadily, worse, and more frequent, thanks to the few, but powerful, and malign individuals in governments and other positions of power all over the world who slow, or downright stop, all progress towards a cleaner, greener planet. I'm not saying there is a whole big conspiracy going on, I am saying that corruption will always unfortunately be a part, however small, of daily life, and that corruption, especially in governing/ruling positions, will always stand in the way. I can only hope that someday, the world will see a day where there is no tolerance ANYWHERE for corruption, so people can get done what MUST be done, change the world, and affect a slow but steady reversal to the awful plagues, famines, droughts, disasters, and more that plunged our Earth into an unequal twilight. Forgive my rambling, I am very long winded most of the time. Peace, good fortune, strength and long life to all those in need of such blessed gifts. Its a pleasure to be here in the Cantina, a pleasure beyond mere words, I thank you all most sincerely for accepting me, my wild ideas, and in general, my new-ness. So...thanks, and peace to all.

A friend of mine over in Clyde is organizing a work weekend to help folks out up in that area. Let me know if you want contact info

Suffering from drought, heat, and wildfires in Central TX (see forthcoming thread), we'd give near ANYTHING for some of that water! Please, just send us a bucket!

Smoke and prayers for you Uwinv and for the rest of you that are experiencing all of the horrible flooding!!! Like Nicholas and Texas we're having the very same trouble here in Oklahoma with the western part of the state having the worst part of it!!! :(
As Nicholas said, "we'd give near ANYTHING for some of that water!"

Time for some terraforming. I joke about a pipeline from the Mississippi to the Southwest, but how about a big ditch from the Gulf to central Texas? Bring water inland, set up desalinization along the way -- Gov. Perry's got Israeli friends he could ask! :D

I've got an uncle that lives just outside of Owego... I'm sorry to hear about the damage, hope the area makes a quick recovery.
