Hello everbody. I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing but my family and I could really use some help. Recently my 5 month old daughter was diagnosed with CHF (congestive heart failure) due to multiple VSDs (holes in the center of her heart). She was having a very hard time gaining weight and was breathing at about twice the rate of a normal baby (70-80 breaths per minute). After a week in the hospital struggling to get her to gain weight, even after inserting a feeding tube through her nose, We were sent home and told that surgery was our only option. Of course my girlfriend Melissa and I were crushed, but we knew that something had to be done to help or little angel get better. After a couple of very stressful weeks at home we got the call that a surgical opening had arisen and we err to be at the hospital in 2 days got pre-op. A couple of restless nights later we were headed to the University of Iowa to have her major VSD closed. We were given instructions on where to arrive and what the surgery would entail, and sent on our way with the understanding we were to be back first thing in the morning to the operation. That morning family arrived from ad far as 10 hours away to sit with us and keep us company while we waited. We were all so nervous, and it was all we could do to keep from breaking down. After only 4 hours (the surgery was supposed to take 6) the surgeon came into the waiting room and delivered the news.... EVERYTHING WENT GREAT! Jaime was being stitched up and taken to the PICU for recovery. We were told that the average time babies spend in the hospital after a surgery like that was 7-8 days. We were only there for 4. Our little girl proved her strength to everyone and showed us what a true warrior looks like.
Thank you all for taking the time to read about our little heart warrior. Positive thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery are greatly appreciated
