This is one of the most tragic things I have seen. My prayers go out to all the parents & everyone at Sandy Hook Elementary school. What is happening to us?

Statistically, tragedies like these are rare, that's a good part of why we find them so shocking.
Think about it after the story settles down, we get more facts, we edit out the misunderstandings.

What, with all due respect, does that have to do with prayers for the community?
That is a political question and belongs in our Political Arena forum (of course, in accordance with the forum-specific rules posted there).
God is in control. Sometimes when evil seems to triumph, we question that. But, as hard as it is for us to see and accept, God does not allow things like this to happen if they are not part of His plan. Furthermore, while He has and is executing a greater plan that is beyond our comprehension, He is not blind to us and our pain. He won't allow something like this without providing for us in it. It can be hard to see these things immediately.
My prayer for the people of Sandy Hook Elementary School, of Newtown Ct, and for our nation is that we allow ourselves to be comforted as God has planned to comfort us in this terrible time.
