I'm relatively new here and most of you don't know but I'm a Corrections Officer for the City of Jacksonville, FL.

Well guys, it's budget talk time for the City of Jacksonville, FL

Mayor has pretty much told the Sheriff what it looks like his budget is going to be come this fiscal year. Big cut to the budget

Here's the estimated damages:

Closing one of the 3 corrections facilities, the Community Transition Center which does alot of the drug programs and work programs.

Laying off ALL 63 Community Service Officers: basically they are nonsworn officers that do crash reports.

Laying off 72 Civilian staff and eliminate 82 vacancies.

Eliminate 74 Police vacancies

Layoff 58 Corrections Officers, demote 14 Sgts to Ofc, demote 4 LTs to Sgt. Eliminate 33 vacancies.

Guys it's gonna be a rough road ahead for alot of people in my department. I do not believe me or my wife will be cut because of seniority but there are friends and co-workers who will be cut. Pray for them and their families and while your at it pray for us too just in case.

Positive thoughts from the Pleasant Valley!

Prayers going out right now. I am a long time believer in the power of prayers!
God bless

You got it. I'm in Jax too and it seems like every year they make these cuts. If I remember right it was the JSO that got hit last year.

Tyler, last year was a contract year so we took a 3% pay cut and had to pay 5% more toward insurance cost. They also laid off Forty something police officers. This year they're laying off CSOs and COs and just getting rid of empty police spots. But yes it's insance that they have a brand new $350,000,000 courthouse but they can't afford police/corrections services like they need.

Yea. We see governmental decisions that seem irrational and unfair all the time. It sucks when it hits close to home.

Hang in there! Hope you, your friends and Jacksonville survive these tough times.
