Since I won't be where I can do a give away when I (hopefully) reach 500 posts, I'd like to go ahead and do this now.
As some of you may know I am a great believer in custom knives over the much more prevalent manufactured ones in value for the dollar. I do understand the cost issue though. The cost of a true custom knife can reach astonomical scale. The solution is (to me) find a good maker who few people know.
So what I'm going to give to a random poster is a custom knife; a drop point hunter (one of my favorite patterns) by Sandwich, MA maker Paul Sheehan. The blade is just over 4" including the ricasso, the bolsters are German (nickel) silver and engraved with a scroll pattern, and the scales are tiger stripe maple. There's a nice bit of filework on the top of the blade to give a grip for skinning, and there's a unique partial guard soldered to the ricasso.
This knife fits my fairly large hands very well, and it was obviously designed by someone who hunted and planned on using it. It has been used, but not much. The stainless steel blade is deeply hollow ground, the the edge shows some sharpening marks. There are a few small marks on the scales too, but they could all be polished out very easily. Better still, you'll win this knife and spend the next 10 years using it the way it was ment to be.
It will come with a sheath and a soft case.
Now, here's what you have to do to stand a chance at getting this for an early Christmas (and in time for hunting season too):
I'd like to give this to someone who does not, and never has, owned a custom knife. That's all. I expect you to police yourselves, so don't enter if you don't qualify. Also, please don't play if you can't legally receive such an item. Last, this is only open to members on the board at this time, anybody joining after the time of this post will have to wait until next time.
I will draw a name at random next Sunday evening, 18 July.
Good luck to you all!
