Plum,
Nice little watch pocket knife. Some guys call it a 'church' knife or office knife. I use to call it my school knife. Went in my LEE jeans watch pocket and no one ever knew it was there. I just knew I needed it to cut a thread off a girls skirt hem. But, as it normally is in life, no such luck that I remember.
The 305 is still made by Buck, one of the long standing 'Big Four' of the 300 series.
Everyone is correct, as they knew they were, in naming Camillus contract construction.
David, I wish there was a test that I could find that let me touch a amp meter like device on steel and it would show what it is.......with the main Camillus contract I don't think Buck will even swear what the blade is. Could be 440C, could be 425M but if you hold me down and twist my arm I will yell out 440a, which was a common Cami used steel.
When Buck took over the constuction of 305s in the mid eighties, 425M was the blade material. Those knives should have a post 1986 date stamp, usually a BUCK escutcheon plate and brass liners. Sometime between the 89 and 90 period, Buck dropped brass liners and went to intergal liner bolster construction method, from two to three ss springs and blades went to 420HC.
Other models like the 313 and 311 continued to be built by Camillus which kept the brass liners and the mystery metal till the end.
This model went from 1972 to 1986. And a bunch of 305s have been made. Yours will be a fourth version of the 305.
They share the 'mold' of the Clipper version which has a keyring attachment intergal to one ss liner and scissors in place of second blade.
There are some harder to find differences in some versions where some have one brass liner per side and some have two on one side. The first two versions have brass scale pins. The 'best of the best' 305 is a 89 Stag version......
More than you wanted to know, eh......300Bucks
