Pre-ban ivory?

I see a lot of knives with 'pre-ban' elephant ivory. it seems to me like there's an awful lot of this stuff around. What assurance is there that this is really pre-ban? Is there a lot of poached stuff on the market selling as pre-ban? Any makers care to comment?

If you are looking to ship it across international borders I would recommend steering clear.

I don't know what the specifics are on the rules for importation, but I think that there is a high risk of seizure. I don't know if there are types of legal documentation confirming that the ivory is "pre ban" or if all ivory is now banned. But either way, the onus would be on you to prove the legal nature of the ivory if it were questioned

Mammoth ivory is legal to import, otherwise I would suggest trying to find an item for sale within your own international borders.
